You stole that bike for $500. It's definitely a '77 KZ1000-A1. I don't think that P on the title means what you think it does, probably only means something in the state it's titled in. Looks like a solid bike. Just plan on going through all the maintenance that's required front to rear, checking for obvious rotten rubber seals or busted gaskets. I'd drop the pan and clean the sump and oil pump pick up screen when you're changing oil/filter, you'll be glad you did. Squirt a little Marvel in the cylinders before you fire it up. Might as well check valve clearance and timing chain for slack, and change the cam plugs in the ends of the head. Cheapest 4-1 performance pipe is a Mac, or a V&H. Delkevic has a full stainless wrap around style meg that's not bad for less than $400. I'd try the jetting like it is. If it's too lean, go to 20-25 pilots, and 120-125 mains. Good score.

Someone once told me to marry that motorcycle I was riding ......there's times I wish I hadda listened .

Nice score for $500, deals like that are few and far. I will take the stock airbox if you're not going to use it, let me know price shipped, I'll send you a PM. Check eBay or Z1 enterprise for a rear fender eliminator kit if your going that route . I have a decent vance and hines 4-1 if your interested. No baffle.
Looks like a good project, let the good times roll

Thanks for the input guys. Yah when i herd the price i couldnt pass it up. Its one of the good things that comes with being in sales at a bike dealership you get to see allot of bikes and meet allot of people. I am going to stick the carbs in one of those ultra sonic cleaners i am going to try and not replace the fuel fittings hopefully it wont leak. i am getting a V&H street pipe for 300 bucks new so i couldnt pass that up either. my major concerns are finding a rear master cylinder and getting the clutch lever to match the zrx master cylinder and lever. i should have it running by sunday if dont have to replace the t fittings. i found a front fender tail light and i will get the most of my list at a discount through my work. thanks for the pointers fellas

My 80 KZ1000 says P on the title. It looks like an ltd to me. doesn't have floorboards weird brake pedals or 18" wheels. I'm beginning to believe P doesn't mean police bike until 82 and later. No unusual wiring or anything else that would lead me to believe it was ever anything except what it is.

That is interesting. I wonder why it was added and why someone chose P? Isn't the 1977 LTD a B model?

I have no idea why they would do something like that. I think sometimes they just fill the spaces on the title with random stuff that applies but is not accurate. I got some work done on the old girl. I put super bike bars on it they look to be about a 4 inch rise and 2 inch pull back they are aluminum i like them. I got the rear tire on the wheel i put duros in the stock size on it. I cleaned up the rear wheel and hub and re greased everything. I took off the swing arm it is in pretty rough shape as far as paint. The shaft was properly greased so it didnt take much at all to get the bolt and the sleeve out i am going to get it sand blasted and powder coated quick. The frame for the most part is in amazing shape so it would seem kind dumb to have a rusty beat up swing arm when everything else will be so nice. I cleaned out the tank it was a little bit rusty and now it is in amazing shape I used METAL SAVER its pretty expensive but it man it works. I got my head light and bucket, battery, handle bars, grips, and a few other things. I drained the oil a few nights ago and i went to put the drain plug back in the motor and i found the front cam chain guide hanging out of the drain plug hole so my carb clean and battery tune up turned into re ring and a valve job. Atleast i know it will be fresh when i get it going. Im going to media blast the swing arm and go through the rear caliper tomorrow so i can get the rear wheel back on. Then Saturday night i will start pulling the top end I am worried that the cam chain guide is fixed and they just forgot the old piece in the motor because the previous owner said he was riding it and he just parked it. I wish there was a way to inspect the cam chain guide before i tear off the top end i was thinking of pulling the sump first and sticking my head in there to see if i can see where the guide is broke or if its been replaced. thanks for the help guys

Be careful removing that cam chain guide screw, make sure you use the right size driver, I striped mine.
Have you coated the inside of your tank yet? I use a mixture of Marvels and gas to prevent rust.

Honestly on the gas tank i just rinsed it with heat. After that i sprayed it down with WD-40 when i get ready to paint it i will see if there is any rust that has developed and i will treat it accordingly. yes i will take care to do it properly when it comes to the engine i am pretty confident and i have a pretty good set of tools. i am mostly worried about the damn chain and putting the fresh block on new rings.

I got the bars on and the controls fitted. I used a ZRX front brake master I order a stock lever to replace that roll click lever and a 2013 Ninja 1000 clutch lever and perch. Also got my fender in the mail for the front just need to mount it b4 paint.. I have not got engine pulled apart yet. I should have most of my parts coming in the mail soon. I dropped off the rear swing arm to the powder coater. Tonight I think I will re-assemble the rear caliper and maybe get the front brake bleed.
