Progress is progress no matter how many days between steps. Looking forward to seeing that ‘03 engine getting set.

Agreed
Just didn’t realize how long this has been sitting in my basement haha. One of the maintenance guys at work is making up rear wheel spacers and modifying the sprocket carrier for me. Getting a set of tires put on my wheels and adding swingarm spools. Also have design put together for the engine mounts. Once I have the rear end together I can put the bike on my table and see how the engine sits in the frame.

Nice project, you may want to consider setting the motor further back. I know someone who had an early GSXR1100 motor in a Harris that was built for a Z1000 motor. The front sprocket is so far ahead of the swing arm pivot that you will need to run the chain loose to avoid the suspension movement being affected as the swing arm goes past level (the longest point)

Motor is simply laying in the frame in these photos. I have to get the mounts made up which will lift it into a much better position. Winter project for my friend with a 3d printer to help me out before I have the mounts made out of steel and welded to the frame.

No worries, just thought I'd mention it as my friend broke a couple of chains before settling on running the chain loose (he had spent a lot on money on mounts, exhaust header etc by then) be lucky

Trying to find the place i purchased the offset front sprocket for the 77 kz1000 i built a couple years ago; was 5/8" offset 17t 520 pitch....apperantely the last one on earth! In the meantime i have decided to go with nardo gray paint on the body work, satin black frame/wheels/hard parts and either blue or purple or green accent color (nuts/bolts/brake lines/etc). Designing engine mounts this weekend to get 3D printed and mock up next week. Going to run motoscope gauges that i'll have machined into the upper triple tree, bar end turn signals, pod filters/PC3 with a dyno tune, reproduction seat (the one i got from ebay seller from vietnam on the 77 kz i built was excellent) and i want to find a titanium header and mate it with an underbody muffler like on the ninja 650. Lots of custom parts to go, rearsets, hangers, brackets, etc, but its winter in Wisconsin so i have plenty of time; ideally i want to be riding by Fall 2022. Will update as things progress.

Engine mounts getting welded onto the frame Thursday; dropping off bodywork for paint Thursday; parts going to powder coat today. Have to modify the radiator a bit, get the header sorted out and then wait for everything to show up from powder/paint.
Gotta wait til after the holidays to order the remainder of the parts needed; chainline, seat, headlight and a few odds and ends.
