Re: 1981 KZ550A2 Auto Advancer Swap

Well, thanks to Swest I planned to swap parts on my advancer, as the original was completed destroyed by rust and corrosion and the one I got on EBAY had the collar nut pins sheared off. I didn't see it well on the EBAY picture.

The parts swapped easy enough and the front of the plate is identical. However on the back, I noticed that the crank pin is in a slight different position, perhaps 3-5 degrees.

Will it run with this change, I am guessing probably not. What say ye? It is any easy switch back and I don't think anything there could cause valve interference, but I am guessing it won't run quite right.

Where is your original one? The one I sent you came off a 82 Spectre KZ 750 N1 or KZ 750 C2.

The original on is in the trash. Even after soaking in phosphoric acid for two days it was roached, couldn't get the bearing of and the plat was destroyed. It is a 1016 same as the one I bought on ebay. Same as the one in the pics next to the 1013 you gave me.We'll see. Also here's a pic of the mc redo.

Gas tank update. There is still a lot of rust on the bottom of the tank. I've etched it twice now. Looks like some bolts stuck in there from a previous cleaning attempt by PO. Considering yet another acid etch, but I know it can't be coated the way it is. R

It looks to be about 3-5 degrees off the timing pin. Not sure what that will do? Not confident enough to try and start it. I don't want to detonate a closed cylinder/valve. Third acid bath on the tank going on. I took a chain attached to the drill to it and got a lot of rust free. Hoping the acid works out the rest overnight. A few obvious pinholes where the badges were. We'll see. I think I will put the one I had back together and keep looking for 016 advancer plate. How'd ya like that master cylinder? R

Damn, that's so close, you might get away with adjusting the timing a little. MC looks good.

That ignition setup is fixed, but I suppose I could drill the plate if worse comes to worse. Pretty sure I'll be able to find one, just don't wanna pay a lot. R
