Thanks Wookie. Look forward to reading about your tank project. Mine seems to be holding up (3 weeks + - so far). Time will tell. In the meantime,as usual,3 steps forward,2 steps back.As I mentioned,I got the carbs balanced and the bike was feeling really sweet. Then I drained the oil and found it was full  of red plastic bits. The only red plastic in the engine that I could think of was on the flywheel and right enough, when I pulled the r/h case off I could see how it had disintegrated. No idea what the original purpose of it was but about 50% had disappeared.Into the sump!.I also noticed that a big chunk of magnet had broken off as well. Both, apparently are common faults on bikes this age. So, a new flywheel is needed and while I'm at it,I've been recommended to replace the dynamo,as there are signs of burning on it.
So thats the good news. The bad news is that while removing the flywheel I jammed a coin into the teeth of the starter clutch to lock things in place and I fucked up the mount for the gear twixt starter motor and starter clutch. Like I said,3 steps forward,2 steps back.
I was referring to my overall build being inspired by yours, I have been on it for four years already without getting wild with the tank. I love what you have done with your tank but I won't be attempting anything similar :)
