KZ1000A2A left in the weeds,

12 May 2012 21:04
#521858
Found this 1978 KZ 1000 A2A last April 2011 beside a garage over grown with weeds. Paid $300 for it. I have been working on it since. Hasn't run in at least 5 years. I'm 52 now but was a motorcycle mechanic in the early 80's. Over the past few years I have resurrected 5 or 6 bikes.
Keeps the mind active, and diverts stress.

I will add more pics when done. Hopefully in about 3-4 weeks.

I've always wondered how a person (like the previous owner of that bike) simply loses interest in motorcycles. I hope it never happens to me. Great find; I'm glad that bike will get a second chance at life. Ed

I have been buying most of the parts on Ebay. Some of the upgrades are, Dyna coils & ignition system, Corbin seat, Rejetted & rebuilt carbs, Kerker header with a D&D can, red Stainless brake lines, red Uniflo pod filters, etc. Rebuilt the wheels( spokes, seals, bearings, rim locks & rim tape)all brake components rebuilt, double needle bearings in swing arm. I have $2,600 tied up into the bike right now including the initial cost of the bike. Another $100 and it should be done including paint.

looked good before and after ,mine is a faring ,cop bike 81. Are the cheap headlight holder any good ,the ones that go on the tubes, with hole in them?

Nice find.

agreed, how does one just let something go to weeds like that?
honda cb750 sitting a garage, I've watched it over the last EIGHT years just disintegrate. Get knocked down, bent by some car, propped up in the parking space again. I've left notes etc.

Bravo for bringing it back to life.

I don't know about the headlight holders. I may convert mine as well latter. Just want to keep it some what orignal for now. This is the first Kawi I have restored. I have mostly worked on Hondas and Yamahas.
