KZed Police bike was created by motorscot
I bought this bike in April to replace my HD Ultra Classic for funeral escort duty. I was able to pick it up for $500 from a friend and have now put a total of $3000 to date in the project. This is a work in progress, but it is mostly complete. Replaced: both gauges, the carbs, throttle cable, clutch cable, speedo cable, and various other bits and attachments described later.

So, in the midst of getting it ready to ride, I decided to swap the stock chain and sprockets for a 96 link DID and new 15/35 front and rear cogs.

Attachment kz8.jpg not found

Also had to completely flush the brakes front and rear and install new pads. Installed new tires, battery, coils, plug wires, and sparkplugs while I was at it. Also installed a new stator and RR (PITA)

Yes, she is sitting forlornly on her front forks. It was a bitch getting the thing lifted back up after it fell off the centerstand (good thing the sidestand was up

Back to normal. Note the original red/blue wig wag halogens in the front. So old school B)

The JM Audio Solo CB, with Push To Talk and helmet headset. Must have when doing escorts. GPS comes in handy too.

I've always liked the police bikes. I'm a cruiser guy, what can I say?
You put some nice work into it. Looking real nice.

So, I have a good friend who said that he would paint the old girl for me. For FREE.

I won't be replacing the pinstripes

Decided to go with all white. No more two tone for me. I am looking at a protector for the gas cap area to stop my keys from scratching the tank

The bags were already white from their time with Phoenix (AZ) PD

That's cool to see one with a fresh coat of paint. It seems like police bikes go one of two ways. Either original survivor with old ratty paint or custom with no semblance of being a police bike. (P21's bike is a notable exception.) Nice to see one get fixed up as a proper police bike again. BTW the all white paint with newer radio box does seem to subtract a few years.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for all the replies. I got up to ride a funeral today and it wouldn't crank. This despite being on a charger for 5 days. The battery replacement was free, but it still cost me $100.

Battery had a bad cell. I am ordering a Deltran Battery Tender Jr in a few minutes. The walmart jobbie I use now, though it says "float/maintain" has never seemed to do the job for the KZ or my Harley. It does put out 18 volts, but I wonder if it finally just overcharged the system and screwed the battery. It was a new battery I bought at the end of March, the day I picked up the KZ (seller told me it needed one)

I am seriously considering a LED headlamp and full led signals and brake lamp.

Ever think about throwing on one of these?

Beats having to keep it on a tender yeah? Unless you want to keep your radio presets intact I guess. ;)

Oh, and otakar has a headlight setup that looks amazing. Changing everything out to a HID headlight. You might want to read some of his posts on it.
