Referring to the rubber plugs at bottom of pilot jets. :)

Inside of the carb inside the bowl? The piece that plugs nup the pilot circuit? I have what appears to be a metal plug with a rubber oring on it. Those are appear to fit in snugly. Would that cause an issue?

Will grasp at another straw --

 Are the carb holders in good condition, and properly clamped onto carbs?

Yes they are. I can't find any possible vacuum leaks or issues like that.

If not already done, would assure that the throttle slides are freely reaching their fully closed down position when the throttle is closed. :)

You ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem.
81 kz1000 k or j ltd
Came with foam pods accel coils and Vance 4:1 also a Dj kit.
I pulled the carbs to clean up as the bike had been sitting, they were spotless already guessing the previous owner was having some issues. Anyway it's got 134 mains 37.5 pilots 3 clip down on a 6 position needle for a starting point. Got the bike running pretty easy. At first would only run on the choke with air screws at factory. Messed with the air screws got it to run off choke but the rpms would climb and fall slowly (stay reving). And would not cold start choke on or off.
Stock mik bs34s, no leaks no tears clean and clear. Good spark compression from 1to4 is 120, 122, 118, 120
Internals believed to be stock.

An old thread, but a nice job of bringing the KZ back.

This build is being featured in our directory here: freebyrd24's '81 KZ1000

At this point, we're only displaying a reduced-size photo (similar to what you'd find in Google Images). We'd like to ask for your permission to publish the original full-size image with your build listing.

If anyone would like to have a build of their own listed, just send me a message with a link to the build thread and we'll take care of the rest.

Ken

On my bike I'm not using the vacuum petcock , so should the petcock vacuum line fitting be plugged? Bike is running great with no plug there!

Vm26 carbs...thanks for any input!

Any unused vacuum port should be plugged during normal running.

An open unplugged vacuum port usually results in a large undesirable air leak and a "racing" idle.

Good Fortune! :)
