Good Fortune! :)

No gas on the plugs

No gas on any plug is puzzling, because it suggests a malfunction common to all cylinders.

Given acceptable compression, and presumably correct cam timing, would presuppose that all intake ports are appropriately "sucking" from the carbs, but not pulling any fuel mixture.

All of which suggests a malfunction common to all carbs.

If the carbs at hand are supposed to have rubber pilot jet plugs, are the plugs correctly fitted, and in good condition?

Good Fortune! :)

Nice posts. Patton. B)

no fuel ?
are u useing the choke?
are the slides low enough ? if u hold the throttle open at all, while triing to start , there will be insuficiant vacuum to draw fuel.
Patton. Can he bench sync these vacuum carbs ?

Yes, I believe CV carbs may be synced.

Here's a link to one of the FILEBASE articles, which describes the process.

The look is still a work in progress. I have some ideas but I'm rolling with it now. I found myself running into issues and not addressing them properly and will need to break it all down again. I plan to get it running this season, break in the new motor, then tear down and work hard at it over the winter. The summer has really distracted me from doing work. I've been enjoying this summer more than ones in the past and it's been good, but I do like my tinkering.

I had a busy month and did not get to properly take care of the carbs. I have some ideas and a plan of attack though! I also fell into a project with my father that has taken some of my attention as well. He picked up a 1978 bmw r100s that we are trying to bring back from 10 years of sitting. Busy busy times! I'll update when I get to work on it. :cheer:

I can't use my trusty photobucket at work anymore (blocked website), but I will post up a few pics if anyone is interested when I can. It's a neat little project. I'd love to do a full resto on that. Too many projects, too little free time.

OK I finally got back to it! I have been trying to work on the bike the last two weekends with a little headway. I cleaned the carbs for the 40th time, rechecked valve clearances which are all at about .09mm-.14mm, and I have great spark. Here is the issue I am running into now.

The bike has 4-1 vance and hines with a baffle and pods. The bike will ONLY start on full choke. It would not fire until I put a little starting fluid in the carbs. After that, it would run on its own with the choke FULLY applied. The RPM's were about 4K and I could rev the bike with the throttle a bit. If I tried to turn off the choke even a little bit, the bike would want to die, so I had to pull the choke back out. Even when I pushed the choke in the slightest bit, it didn't like it and would die. Then it would not want to start back up on choke on it's own without the assistance of starting fluid to get it going.

Any ideas? This is still my rebuilt motor I am trying to fire. It has great compression, a rebuilt head with a valve job, new pistons and rings. I'll have to search back in this thread for my jet settings. Am I running lean? The bike ran great on this setup and jet combination before I got the head redone. Any ideas or tests are very welcome. I'm not sure where to proceed from here.

Thanks!
