ha, funny i was going to mount a back plate this weekend but i pre thought of all this a welded a bar to support the battery box and the plate. if your going to drill hole i would go with welding in a sleve instead like the way i did here for my rear sets.
Do u have any advice for mounting a tab on the frame to receive the out board plate?
I was thinking about drilling a hole and putting a bolt through with a (BIG)nut on the back side, then tacking the nut to the frame, remove plate and then finish weld. i would think i should have the nut just off the frame , then build up weld to the nut. this might allow for a bit of miss alignment if i dont get the hole in the perfect spot. i would not like to have to elongate the hole to accommodate the nut being slightly off.
is there any way i can use my grinder for this task?:silly:

its a long winded way but it wont compromise your frame and as walltoall said safty first!!

KZ71 is right Mark, you'll want to put sleeves in the drilled holes. If you don't, you will most likely crush the frame tube when you tighen the bolt down :S And after all the work you have already put into that frame, you don't want to damage it

What i meant was to weld the nut on the side of the frame tube.
I just dug out the plate and placed it on the bike for the first time.I should have done this before i asked. i was at work at the time.
Ben actually has it pre-drilled, and provided a bolt and a threaded sleeve for the back. so i will do as i suggested, but rather than welding a nut to the side of the frame rail, i can weld the supplied sleeve. i'm sure the sleeve will look more "PRO" than a nut welded on there.
Maybe i can use my grinder to clean up the weld.

I was wondering what you might be refering to Mark. I'm still gonna see if I can even use the frame mounts. If I do, I may have to modify my frame a bit. I'm not sure I'm ready to start cutting my frame up just to mount a bearing support......

there you go problem solved! but i use a 60 grit sanding disk on my grinder for cleaning welds, less chance of nicking metal or goin to deep, canadian tire do "use once" ones which are real good.
