Man that looks terrible!

Haha, just kidding, looks nice. I'm almost motivated to put my CBR rearsets on the 650 instead of being lazy and waiting till next winter.

My work continues on the rearsets. Those following along know that I did not have the ambition to fabricate my own rearsets like others here (Josh, Mark), so I am adapting a set of '05 R6 rearsets. The last couple days I have been working on the right side. Thanks to cameroguys seemingly obvious (not to me!) suggestion that I make an adapter bracket, I did just that. So after some measuring, some templates, and some mock fitting, I have a rough bracket with modified food peg studs.

Looks like you have been getting some more use out of that lathe again. See I told you that it's a very versatile and useful tool. How much does the nut on the swingarm pivot protrude from the frame on the other side? Are you going to have to space out to account for that or is it inset somehow? Or is that a non-issue due to the shape of the left side rearset? I would say that your adapter plates look like pork chops. Yummy!

Oh the questions!
cameroguy- I will need to step up to 1/2" plate for clearance. If you take a look at the pic, at the upper right side of the rearset is an aluminum bracket that sticks up. This mounts the front of the master cylinder. I already notched the swingarm bushing for clearance, but I need about .1" more plate thickness to keep it off the swingarm pivot. The bracket is so small that I don't think it will be noticable. I'll take a pic later to show you guys what I mean.
Josh- You are right, I am getting some more use out of the lathe. It has come in real handy making some of the custom parts I need! The swingarm nut doesn't protrude on either side, it is inset in the pivot bushings. I'll space the left side out the same to give me plenty of room for the shift linkage. Man, having that lathe sure makes my life easier B)
Thanks Tdub, I'm happy with the way it's turning out too :cheer:

I had a similar clearance issue. when i put on the wider swing arm, i had to shim out my rear-set plate. i cheated. Not having a lathe like some spoiled kz riders i know. I had to improvise, and put a pair of large nuts (Like a real man would )behind the plate, around the mounting bolts.

You're right Mark, unusually large nuts would have been a real mans answer to the problem. You're also right that I'm spoiled having a lathe and a welder, but I remember in the not too distant past doing all my fabrication with a hand drill, a file, a jigsaw, a hacksaw and a bench grinder. I just picked up some half inch plate aluminum so I'll profile a new bracket and cut it out. Hopefully I can get it finished up to the same point the prototype bracket is at this evening. Damn spoiled KZR members, especially the ones with completed projects! :P

You'll notice that Mark said that he would "Put on some large nuts." Just like in real life. Open the drawer and remove the unusually large nuts. Then put them on. I can hear it now "Honey have you seen my nuts?" "Yes dear, they're in the sock drawer."

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Don't worry Mark. Just think about all the extra money you'll have when the rent checks start rolling in. You can buy yourself a lathe and mill of your own. I'll be happy to give you some pointers. But you'll still need the grinder. First lesson, how to sharpen drills with a bench grinder.

Thanks Leon, now you've gotten Mark all worked up, but you reminded me of a joke Mark....

A guy dressed like a pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel sticking out of his pants. the bartender asks "why's there a steering wheel sticking out of your pants buddy?" The pirate relies "Aaarrrggggghhhh, It's drivin' me nuts!"
B)

Thanks Mark, and quit whining, we're blowing our dough on useless bike parts: you're buying income properties......boo hoo for you
