It's been a while. Here is the link to the old post starting back in 03. It’s been sitting in the garage since the case breakage probably 3.5 years ago. It's worthy of repair. Derek at Moto Lab has been fixing a few cases lately with some trick TIG rod from Germany. It's allowing him to penetrate with less heat, thus allowing this to be done without case teardown.

I'll have to dig through some pictures and show what's getting fixed with before and after.

Carbs are getting cleaned up.

Placing an APE manual cam chain tensioner
This allows the removal of my little intake track modification.

Well see what that will do for the power band.

I want new piggy back shocks. TSS looks promising for the price. Others are asking big money for twin shock setup.

Once I get this over with. The handlebar HW is getting ditched in favor of modifying the existing triple tree with bar clamps. Super bike bar time and no more goofy risers attached to the fork leg. :)

Main thing is running this year...

As always a work in progress, motor mods are next on the agenda; after all this other junk is sorted.

The old bike thread.

Thanks for fixing that link.

This was the picture after the second rebuild placing the ZR motor.

Once I get it back in shape I'll update another.

Yeah... That was a tragic day indeed. The worst was the garage tip over the blew out the ignition cover mounts.

It was a few months after the accedent sorting out the bits that were broken. Time for some routine maintance. Had the bike hiked up too much on the kick stand.

Turned to go get a tool. Had that bad feeling like your about to get hit by a bus. Turned around to watch it collapse on the right side and watch the ingnition cover explode on the floor.

Once it was lifted and noted the case breakage, I amost lost my mind.

So this is one reason I waited so long to get back into it. I needed a break.

Man posting pictures isn't fun on this site any longer. :)

When I bought my then new 82 GPZ1100 B2 the first thing I bought was a set of black case guards. They have been worth every penny.

Still debating on how to accomlish this. I don't really want to have said hoops on the bike... But your right. It needs somthing to keep this from happening again.

Challange is noone is really making parts for these dino bikes any longer. So we get creative and make them on our own. Part of the fun for me I guess.

Update is all the parts except for a new battery strap are in. Fixture for locating the new bung taps is in the ready.

Should see some more progress over the next two weeks.

Stay tuned.

Case guards are still available on eBay every now and again...be careful, the ones for your bike (KZ750R1) are model specific...others are being advertised for the 1983 L3 model and although the motors and frames are very similar, the L3 case guards do not work on the R1.

An alternative to the RSS shocks are a set of piggybacks from the ZRX-1100/1200. They are far less pricy, and bolt right up with the correct eye to eye lenght. I have a set on my 82 GPZ-750, and they ride great. (Got mine off E-bay)
