I just stumbled upon your thread and I have been looking at all the things that you have done to the bike. It looks great! I have plans of turning my kz1000 into a cafe racer but I think that I want to do the motor mods first. I think that I'll have to start the break down of my bike in the spring (I don't have a garage and winter is quickly approaching...) Anyway, good job on the bike it looks sweet.

Thanks for the kind words!

Well, I have the complete body work for the '80 KZ750E1 so in trying to decide on a seat, I put the seat from the E1 on the LTD. The seat fits fine on the LTD frame without modification. The hinges are in the right place and the seat latch works. There is a gap between the seat and the LTD tank, but not when using the E1 tank. Also, there is a gap at the back for the E1 tail piece.
The point of trying this was to determine which seat I was going to use. Either the stock front seat ('80 and '81 LTDs are split front/rear), a modified '82 LTD seat (as seen in previous posts) or the E1 seat.
Well, the E1 seat is more comfortable than the LTD seat in my opinion. The seat is wider and softer which was nice. It is made for the E1 frame and not the step down LTD frame so the ride height is shorter by about an inch. So, this is a no go for use on my bike with the rearsets. I was hoping to increase the ride height! Well, now I know. So, I am probably going to use the stock or modified LTD seat for the project.

Here is a really bad picture of my bike with the E1 seat. The seat height is an inch shorter with the E1 seat on the LTD frame.

Here you can see the rub marks from the LTD seat on the tank. The E1 seat is lower by about an inch.

Is the front part of the seat still stock? I have the same bike and really like how this passenger seat looks. Where did you get it?
