So I changed the oil this afternoon and also changed the spark plugs.
Changed it per the manual I found under the seat. WHO KNEW. *also was the original warranty paper from 1983*
I also found a plugged vacuum line on the carb and a broken line off the petcock.
Well I replaced that hose.
Started the bike up and it idled extremely high.
Tweeked the idle screw.
Idle evened out with the choke off
I took it up the street and when I pulled the clutch in to shift my RPM's Sky rocketed.
Cut the motor off dropped in neutral and rolled my butt home. *thank god I live on a hill*

Once home I started it up and the idle at neutral with choke off is perfect right at 1100.
Once reved it hung. Pictures are not in order but should explain themselves I hope

Not clear on what you are describing. Did you run a vacuum line form the petcock to the open vacuum port? If you still have the smog equipment you should have 2 vacuum lines going to a valve above the valve cover and one vacuum line going to the petcock and one should be blocked off. If this has been deleted you should have 3 blocked ports and just the one going to the petcock doesn't really matter but it's usually carb #2.

You are describing a classic symptom of a vacuum leak. you need to check that all the vacuum lines that might be coming from the carbs aren't leaking or the ports are plugged. Also you need to make sure the carb holders (intake boots) aren't leaking. Make sure the clamps are tight and the rubber isn't cracked and they are tight to the head. Start the bike and let it idle. it will probably be fast. Take some spray carb cleaner and spray it around the boots and vacuum lines. If the idle drops or stalls yoy have found a leak. Most likely you will have to replace the boots and vacuum lines. This bike is 30 yrs old so it stands to reason.

Oh, BTW you need to download the service manual. I'd also recommend printing it out or buying a hard copy as well.

I am not sure I have a original tank on this bike. I drained the tank and found there is no float mechanism. There are no wire's coming from the take to indicate that it has a fuel float. Any suggestions?

The 83 750L model bike should have a fuel level sending unit in the tank. Not sure what to suggest other than maybe shooting some photos of the tank from the underneath side so we can see.

That is very odd. IDK of any model that used that tank pattern that didn't have a gauge. Are you sure it wasn't just deleted an blanked off?

It should look like this. (ebay listing out of The Netherlands for a KZ700 tank)



I just noticed you had tucking the tail light under the seat as a potential mod. I would discourage you from cutting the frame. You could adapt a ZR7 tailight like I did if you don't want the big glowing brick.

Nice score! As was mentioned earlier you stole it at that price, enjoy your ride. .

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

SO after further examination. I can't think of a reason. But a previous owner. Removed the entire float system and welded a lovely plate over it. Quite cleanly but Irritating none the less. So whats your average on gas mileage?
