What did you figure out about wiring.

Taking a second look its not a 1979 cam cover, I'm going to guess that maybe you have a Z1 900 engine in the 1979 frame. what's the engine serial number.

Got a couple pics of the starter cable, it runs along the frame to an elbow down to the case and disappears so I'm guessing straight to starter? As for the engine serial I can't quite read it due to the powder coat or paint but I'm fairly sure it starts with KZ100, I'll sand that off later to be able to read it fully. Will attach pic of carbs also. Strange to me that there's 2 fuel lines coming off petcock to carbs but there's 2 ports on carbs without fuel line attached. Hopefully you can see in a pic but wtf is that about? I'm glad to have the bike but he was definitely more proud than he should've been of it. At least I have a chance to do it justice. Tried to start again today and it took quite a few cranks and the perfect amount of choke and throttle. Tank is emtied if the stale gas that had stabil in it.

Frankly, I am surprised you for it to run on such old gasoline.

There should be three heavy-gauge battery cables. One should be connected to the battery negative post. The other end should be bolted to the engine case.
There should also be one connected to the positive post of the battery, and the other end connected to one of the large posts on the starter solenoid. The third one should be connected to the other large post on the solenoid, and the other end of it connected directly to the starter.
The starter solenoid also has two smaller posts that should each have a single small wire connected to it. One of those wires comes from the starter button, and the other wire goes to ground. If he solenoid is missing or malfunctioning, the starter button will not do anything.

Open bowl vents!!!! Pull the bowls and do a good clean on the carbs/jets/bowls first.

Yes, the whole fuel system needs a careful cleaning. An inline fuel filter would be a good idea, too.

Got 2 inline filters, may do new ones. Not gonna lie 4 carbs is intimidating but a good running bike is worth it.

Also the kill switch has to be on. Was it a KZP before it got hacked up, er "improved"? :whistle:

The bowl vents had hoses on them from the factory but you don’t really need them. Like TexasKZ and Scirocco have mentioned pull the bowls off and clean everything up real well. Nothing is going to spring out at you. See picture of the basic guts of a carburetor bowl area. If you feel like your mechanical abilities will allow you I’d pull the carbs off and clean them up on the bench. Get a few cans of carb clean and spray every passage out, just because cautious as some will want to spray back at you. The best thing to do is get 4 Tupperware type containers and make sure all the parts stay with the carb body they came out of. You need to inspect the rubber intake boots for cracks and rot, if any air get in through them the engine won’t run well. Your gonna need new bowl gaskets also.
