Those fenders rely on rivets so it makes sense they would need extra bracing. The Z1/KZ1000's are one piece.

I will looking into replace the fender in the future, don`t like the way its mounted with the bolt on top... more smooth design the fender you have linked to.

Today have finish rebuild the engine, installed the last shim I have waited for in the mail. Now the valve clearance is between 0,10-15mm and approx around 0,12-0,13.
I have installed new "cop holders" over the shims, after that is was easy to measure the valve clearness so the old one was properly not 100% flat. I have also installed new carb. holder (rubber inlet). I will soon install the engine in the frame. Looking forward to it :) Hopefully can I start up the engine during the month.

When I cleaned the old front light reflector it damage it.. the silver layer was going of... so I have order new reflector, the old look to be orginal, so it was properly time for replace it anyway, so get good light again?

650ed wrote: ajsfirehawk makes an excellent point! Carefully check the bottom rear of that fender to see if it has been modified. Some had the struts wrapped around the back of the fender and attached to holes as in ajsfirehawk's picture, and some had the struts attached to tabs on the fender as shown in the image below. Someone may have modded your fender to eliminate the holes or the tabs. In any case it looks like there's a lot of unsupported fender there that might cause a problem if you hit a bump. Ed

I removed the brace and bent the tabs inward when I first got the bike for what I feel is a cleaner look...... never had a problem although the 78 fender looks to be maybe a little sturdier.
Am looking forward Gordone to you firing up the bike....... you've done a fine job on the bike and worked your butt off on it so I'm hoping all things work out great.

The fender is mounted same way as before, I have only driven the bike for one season, but there was no problem then. It feel werry stiff, its some metal plate on the inside to make it more stiff...

In the future I will look more into the fender, I don’t like the design 100% the way its mounted to the front fork with the bolt nuts showing on top.
But these the cool thing always something to improve. I’m plaing to rebuild the eletrical system in next phase, maybe next winter.

I’m looking forward to firing up, hope not the oil leak everwhere and its coming alot of white smoke out the pipe hehe :)

Yeah the fender always looked like a bird beak to me. I like the LTD genders. Shorter and more stylish. B)

Yesterday I moved the engine into the frame, it was my first time and it was not so easy... heavy engine.. :)
I tried to protect the frame with some plastic "rollers", it worked okay, it was not much hit on the frame.
I started to mount some of the cabels, will take the rest of the cable and then the chain etc...

I have some private task with my family today and tomorrow, if it was up to be I will been outside working :)
Looking forward to start the engine up :)

Today have I installed the chain and exhaust. I have started a threat for the chain, want to verify the lock on the chain looks good:
www.kzrider.com/forum/2-engine/608232-install-chain-correct

I have also started a threat for disc brake lock, I want a good one, not fun to loose the bike after all work has been done...
www.kzrider.com/forum/5-chassis/608233-disc-brake-lock

I have a idea maybe I can start up the engine on Sunday, but I don`t want to stress it... (not easy) hehe the weather is start to be good...
want to drive... :)
