I have been reading trough your build without knowing you are another dutchman on the KZ forum :laugh:
Nice build you have, like the way you try to learn all the skills yourself like anodizing and building your own wiring loom.
When i started riding bikes years ago , Nico Bakker was already a big name in racing and building frames.
My measurements were with the engine in the frame so I hope it is straight.
When I get it on the welding table I will have a closer look.
Where are at in the Netherlands?

I also remember Nico Bakker from back in the day.It was nice to meet him and see his workshop. Nice to see new frames still being put together by the next generation.Old school skills living on.
Anyway I have a few years of contacts and addresses in my favourites,a lot of them from around the Netherlands,so if your looking for anything special let me know. Enjoying your build.
I just got back from holidays so ive got to blow the dust of mine and get the wiring sorted. Ordered a flush aircraft style fuel cap yesterday. Should get that next week.

Engine is fixed on the jack and soaking in degreaser.

Oké, I need some advice from you experts about 2 things (for the moment ).
1. I like the engine to stay as it is and only change some gaskets, rebuild the carbs, change oil and oil filter.
-is there anything else I should take care of?
(according to the PO, the engine was running in good order when he sopped it 2 years ago)

2. I like to paint the engine and have seen various methods on the forum.
(VHT, Duplicolor, etc)
this is what I have planned



degrease, clean, blast, brush and paint it with VHT.
-will VHT be good enough or do I need to use some sort of primer?

The big plan is to have it running in a month of two and see how it goes.
Then next year or so do the paint job on the tank etc. using these colors.

The craftsmanship on this build is superb and if I can reach only 50% of this I will be a happy man :laugh:
Unfortunately it stopped about 7 months ago and i am curious about the finished product.

Im about to do the same thing Ive got a real nice undercoat of road tac and going to pull the pan, cleanup with diesel and marvel mystery oil and clean the oil pick up screen and see what is in there after cleanup with degreaser and some engine bright the plugs and spacers fit perfectly

I used to live here but now I'm just visiting for a week.
I've also been up to Nico Bakker's shop; I felt like I was entering the temple of motorcycling. I only took them an alloy wheel to straighten. What a nice bunch of regular guys, no attitude at all. I wanted to move in and stay there.

After cleaning with degrease and high pressure hose.









Then the $20 grid clean equipment



And verry happy with the result.

Im considering soda blast and lots of water. I haven't decided yet

I have tried soda blast with a different gun but it blocks easily.
Maybe I give it another go with this air gun.
If you start blasting protect yourself because the return blast can hurt your skin

Next job is taking some covers of for polishing and spraying.

Ive been doing buffing for years, thats why I dont do paint. this is just a quick fix and flip. Mabe a winter time to do project and I keep it.

Finally summer in Holland.
But before relaxing in the sun I got a job to do.
Painting the engine while it is dry and sunny outside.

And after spraying could not resist to put on some covers (wil be done later)
