Dutch 1977 Z1000 Build

Before taking it apart had to make sure it was straight
Did not know an easy way of measuring up something which has not a straight part on it.
So with the help of gravity and a few strings I made something up and are happy with the result.





Also fixed my license plate holder.

It will be a while before the finished pictures in the country side will appear.
By that time the summer will be far over.
Not that there will be much difference outside :pinch: ay the moment it is 17 degrees Celsius and raining.
Next week my job brings me to Toronto, 27 degrees and sunshine I see.

I have seen people struggle with hoisting the block out of the frame.
Now I know what a pita it is.

Putting it back freshly painted is something else.

If you have some time Thursday night, there's a bike meet in Toronto at Leslie and Lakeshore.
Can be hundreds of bikes on a dry night.
Usually from 7 to 12.
At the Tim Hortons donut shop.

to install the engine lay it down on the floor on a piece of carpet or such,and slip the frame down over it.you can get some appropriately sized vinyl tubing(from a home improvement store) and slit it lengthwise and use it to cover your frame to protect it on the install.

Same with the old exhaust, too rusty and ugly so I left them.
Looking for headers from Delcevik and look what the mailman brought yesterday

I know it is probably Chinese crap but it looks good and if it last for a year I am happy.
Gives me some time to look for a Yoshimura or GP wrecks muffler.

GP Moto GpWerks is a great exhaust. The difficulty is that he just doesn't make that many. These days from what I understand is that it takes a group buy. I believe the minimum is 3 sets of pipes. I absolutely love mine. I have a video of it in my build thread in my signature.
It looks like back in July he was making some exhausts for GS/KZ1000s. I sent him a message to see if he has any more still available.

I have read about the trick of laying down the engine on the ground but the tubing for protection is a new one.
And also necessary if you do not want to damage your freshly paintjob.
It looks like the little Japanese guy is about to pickup the engine by itself and place it the frame

Nice build you have, now I have another 40 pages to read :laugh:

I contacted Chris from motoGp werks and got a good price for a complete system but including shipping and the huge amount of tax in The Netherlands it became to expensive.
I tryed if he could sell me only the muffler which could have brought home in my suitcase but he only makes complete systems.
Maybe when my "Chinese" muffler falls apart I will give it another go.

yeah if the front end and swingarm etc. is assembled on the frame it's not really feasible to put the frame over the engine .

a couple of guys can do the job handily enough with it upright.watch out for pinched fingers tho :pinch: !

I also checked my frame using string and a waterpas. Everything looked good until I put the engine in and it wasnt so good. I took the frame to

and he got it all straightened out for me. He also put in some bracing and spaced the rear wheel properly. Very happy and a good price.
