I decided to go a different direction with the seat. I got a kz1000 "ducktail" and a Z1 seat. The Z1 seat is a little too long for the 750 frame, so I shortened the seat pan to fit. I also added Z1 tank emblems. The tach gear was leaking, so I replaced all the seals. The weather is getting warm, so I hope to start the full tear down and paint soon.

I think it looks fine. The fender looks a bit sparse for my taste.

I've seen rooster tails come up and hit the rider in the face. :woohoo: Coming out here from LA for the last time it was two hours of rain. By the time we made it here my chick was whimpering and soaked from the rear tire. I felt sorry for her then but not NOW. :evil:

Very cool; what year bikes were the tail and seat from? Any fancy mounting involved for the tail piece on that frame? I have a similar bike and that could be a good direction to switch it up down the road. :whistle:

Here is a link to the seat I bought:

I'm not to sure what year the tail section is from, but I think most of the Z1 and kz900/1000 tail sections use the same mounting. As far as comparability with the 750h frame, it fits the frame perfectly but there are no mounts for it. I have to make my own. It may bolt on to a 750e frame since those have tail section mounts welded to the frame from the factory.

I started fabricating the rear tail section / fender eliminator using angle aluminum. This will also mount the tail light and license plate when it's done. I'll cover the bottom with sheet aluminum to keep debris out of the tail.

So I got the same gauge set for my 81 ltd, inspired by your build. I am doing the wiring now... How did you rig the turn signals from two indicators to one? I tried putting the wires on the harness side together but it back feeds so when I the signal on left or right both blinkers flash.

You need a diode to prevent the signal from cross feeding. This is the one I used:

Awesome, thanks man. Also was there any trick to the neutral light? I thought I had it hooked up right because I tested it in N but when I shifted it just stayed on. I had to run out the door tho so I havent had time to troubleshoot.

The neutral switch is a ground signal, so be sure you are providing a positive signal to the indicator light (just like the oil light). If the light is stuck on, the wire from the switch has a short to ground somewhere. My bike doesn't like to shift out of neutral when it's not running or moving, so be sure you are actually out of neutral before you go crazy trying to find a problem!
