Awesome pictures David from a great bike.
Let us know how the Dyno went , I am almost at that point and curious what they can do for improvement.
I had a Cobra a few years ago and also put it on the Dyno.
Best way to really know if your settings are right.

Eric

What a great looking ride. I can only hope mine looks as good as that when I'm done. Please tell me how you got the finish on those carbs. I would have voted if I knew how. Thanks and congrats on a fantastic looking build. jon

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Its come a long way,I know.
The contours in the clutch plate are real Leon. At least I routed 3 grooves into it to break it up a bit.I didnt like the look of a big solid slab.I still want to put a nicer finish on it eventually.Ill try anodising it again if I can find a stronger power supply.
Aquaholic, Carbs are just cleaned (ultrasonic bath) and the tops and bottoms are again, failed anodising. Not a power supply problem like the clutch plate, more I think a composition problem. The carbs are not straight aluminium, they are a mix of different stuff, not sure what.(Magnesium?) Anyway something that wouldnt anodise, though I went through the full process, even dying them black and fixing them. This is how they came out.I thought it looked good,so I sprayed some clearcoat and that was it.
Eric, yup Im waiting to hear from the tuners, hopefully something this week. If you are interested, they are up in Heerhugowaard which is a bit far for you but I was recommended a place in Zeeland which is a bit closer.Let me know and Ill find out the details for you.

davido, naturally i knew the mill cuts were there.

what i mean is it looks as tho it has outward curvature to it.
instead of just being what it is.a flat plate with some mill cuts in it.
maybe you need to squint to see it! :pinch: lol

Dont see it Leon but its as flat as they come,so it must be some sort of optical illusion, like you say, caused by the dodgy anodising. Could be the start of a new fad. Move over metal flake, here comes dodgy anodising!!!

i knew i shouldn't mention it

at a glance to me the mill cuts almost look like fins(instead of cuts)which makes the whole cover(because of the dodgy ano)look like it bulges out.

no biggie.
rock on ,i won't mention it again.

The bike is finally back from the tuners. Spring has sprung and It was a beautiful day today,so I got on the train and went up to collect the bike.
( for a ride report,and some photos go to www.kzrider.com/forum/17-ride-reports/60...de-today-pics#758140 )
Anyway, heres the paper with all the numbers. The carbs were not the problem, new needles and dropping the 140 main jet to 132. I think he said 3 runs on the dyno.
The problem was the ignition.I had cleaned and replaced some melted wires but the bolt head on the end of the shaft was slightly too long and it was rubbing on the inside of the points cover. The points were covered in aluminium snow!! Theres now a second gasket on it,so Ill check it tomorrow but hopefully its ok now, otherwise Ill grind a mm or 2 off the bolt head.
I bought this bike as a non runner and Ive only ridden it maybe a kilometer or so to run through the gearbox before I stripped it down. I also ran round the block a couple of weeks ago when I first started it but that was before it was set up properly. It was pretty rough and the clutch wasnt right. So,its fair to say that Ive no idea what the original KZ1000CSR went like.
From the chart, what I brought in had a Maximum 96.6 BHP ( anybody know what a standard CSR puts out?) Now up to 104.1 BHP. Not too bad! I never thought about torque too much before but it is very noticable on this bike. It pulls very strongly (Is that a word?) in all the gears. That was a treat.
On the down side, the carbs are not as crisp as I would have hoped.Seems more 'Massey Ferguson' than 'Kawasaki' There is a definate 'lag' there that I wouldnt expect with CVs but its my first Z1000 and the carbs are more than 35 years old. Is that normal?
The clutch is working now,but Im not happy with it. Its still very stiff and its a challenge to get it into neutral. Ill have to fiddle more with it.
The bike feels very planted and corners nicely..(Pilot streets) Not at all twitchy which Im very happy about. The riding position, while a bit wierd is not uncomfortable,at least not short term. I need to put a few more miles on the clock and get used to it.Needless to say its very different to my everyday bike (Bandit 600).
So thats it. After 2 years,9 months. from this;

Looks great!

For some reason, I thought you were going to do a more cafe like build. I really like how you used take off parts like the taillight. B)
