I agree with Mark, straight edges are simpler and more fool proof, but the frame can also get in the way. You could also lay a straight edge against the rear sprocket and run a string line to extend the straight edge. Of course Mark is correct, you'll want to verify the rear axle is square in the swingarm first

Yep. swingarm is aligned with front wheel and square to the rear axle. Had to be also for the rear shocks to be dead on too.

No room for a straight edge as it has to be against the face of the sprockets and not the teeth to be accurate?

I'm absolutely loving this build. You're really sticking to what you wanted, which is a kickass bike.

Cheers guys - I could have rushed it out to get riding but it's not the way. I'll probably only get the time and patience to do this kind of build once - so may as well do it right.

That is correct, the straight edge needs to be against the face of the sprocket. Another cheap and easy way to check is with a string line. Not quite as precise as a straight edge (or as cool as a laser ) but it'll show you what you need to know.

Not sure if I just had bad luck with them, but I replaced my stock charging system with electrosport a few years ago. The stator is still in, but I went through 3 warranty replacement reg/rects before finally eating the cost and buying a Rick's. I would just suggest you keep an eye on it, lest you get stranded a few times like I did.

It's only being raised by an inch. Besides, I may just raise the roof of the tank and keep all else as stock. As with all things, a balance between looks, handling and comfort is the goal - in that order lol.
