I just ran into a story on this bike and thought of this thread....interesting....

1971 Titanium Husqvarna

Quoted from the source: "Hallman Racing had commissioned Pro-Fab to make a small run of light, strong and expensive titanium frames to accept Husky engines. Other weight-saving tweaks included titanium fork crowns, handlebars and axles. The fenders and seat base were thin plastic, the gas tank was aluminum, and various parts—including the brake pedal and ignition cover—were drilled to lighten them further.
The result weighed in at an amazing 189 pounds, or 25 pounds lighter than a comparable production Husqvarna."

The Kaw List:
Current: 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII, 78 KZ1000 A2, 78 KZ1000 Z1-R, 78 KZ650 SR, 80 KE175
Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250

The Husky is awesome!!!!

I wonder how difficult a titanium frame would be to produce??

I bet that an all Ti frame would be expensive. I know that Ti framed bicycles generally start at $1000 for a bare frame.

Hey that Ducati looks like the color that I'm painting my KZ. I just love the eccentric adjusters on that ZXR swinger. Keep up the good work. Did you ever get the Dyna? Merry Christmas.

I have been pondering this very question. The tubing is roughly $1 an inch for 1.5" o.d. .032" thick tubing. There is roughly 220" of tubing for the main cradle and cross braces. I did not add up the subframe and all the plate you would need for tabs and brackets. Then of course the skill to use a tubing bender to form the cradle. Then we need to provide an inert atmosphere to tig weld in. Since you need to have the frame tubes mounted on a jig to maintain placement, we would have to rig a backpurging system to fill the tubes with inert gas while welding. Me thinks you could find worse ways to spend your time and money.... Anyone care to tackle it? I don't have a bender, but I hear JMR is having a sale to the end of the month....

Ahhhh we coming down to the end of the KZ, and the birth of the Boneevvvvveeeel CT 90.

The case is on the drawing board, soon there will be frame building etc.

KZ needs ignition, then a summer of track time, the Bonneville 90 project officially begins. My Buddy Ed and i are planning on the worlds fastest trail 90...

More to come..or another thread...or geeze where would this fit?

Big fun.
