I would like a little more speed at a lower rpm. Opposite of gearing it lower.

Then this 37 tooth aluminum sprocket i have may serve u well. its like new.it will bolt right onto the zrx hub. it has a depression on 1 side, so u could flip over it to change the chain clearance.B)

16 tooth counter sprocket
40 tooth rear sprocket

180/55 17 inch rear tire

Min Max At Power
Gear MPH MPH MPH
1st: 0 51 42
2nd: 18 74 61
3rd: 23 98 80
4th: 28 118 97
5th: 31 134 110

I calculated my gearing on the web site, max rpms 8500.

I know from riding the naked bikes that you need alot more horsepower to pull from say 110 mph to 135 mph.

I ride a Ducati Monster on the track, 148 indicated on the speedo is about as fast as I have seen. Thats the speedo mind you I'm trying to look at it as I approach the "Dogleg" after the front stretch of the Reno Fernley raceway. Ahhhts a littel scary there, your lookin at that dogleg and praying you make it through.

The monster has 120 Horsepower. The stock KZ has about 90, and a much larger frontal area, so just guessing I would say you need about 140 Horsepower to get the KZ to 140 plus.

I set mine up for 110 mph. I know it will get there, and I have no need to ride the street any faster. At redline the chart says it will hit 134, but I would be surprised if it got to that speed. It will be quick, and hit a pretty good top speed.

Hope this helps.

Ted

on my blue z1 between the unbraced frame and breathed on 1197 with that gearing it was a handfull to keep it straight and keep up with the tach when i felt the urge to educate certain kids on plastic bikes from stoplight to stoplight, youll be happy with that gearing!

Great info. gang!! It was a busy day today.mounted the rear master cylinder and finished the swing arm bolt spacers. Installed a steering stop and put the old cover (Kawasaki) over the front brake line splitter.
Remember brothers, "It's all about the ride."

try dg chassis , pmfr or there is a new outfit at least to me called rebel gears they actually build a lot of wierd ball stuff not that offset sprockets are weird, dg chassis built both of my offset 530 5/8th offset sprockets a 16 tooth and a17 tooth. they do very nice work. rebel gears will make anykind of rear sprocket that you could need all you will need is the year and model of back wheel and the sprocket size you want to go to and they will do it up for you.
