Greetings gents.

The fuel petcock for my '79 KZ650-C3 has mounting holes at 44mm center/center.
I need a rebuild kit OR a replacement for it.
When I search for "kz650c petcock" (on eBay) all the results show mounting holes at 34mm c/c
AND
I am unable to find a rebuild kit with a diaphram and diaphram spring.
Oddly, when I search for "petcock 44mm" the only results are for Suzuki ?

Anyone have recommendations on what to do here? I'm so close to the finish line and this has me stumped and stalled :(

I recently replaced my '79 KZ650-D(SR) petcock with this one meant for Suzukis.

So far it has been fine, although I did rotate the vacuum port to point down, so it was easier to run tubing.

Kawasaki diaphram is only like $10.00.

Not sure of spring, but doubtful it's bad. Mounting hole don't matter, just replace the diaphram. Not much else needs rebuild normally.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Hey Ron. Unfortunately my petcock does have a borked diaphram & spring (spring rusted into 2 pieces) and i was looking at rebuild kits but can't find one with that spring.

It looks like Enhanced is got the solution tho. Who'd have guessed the correct replacement for KZombie is a Suzi part? Lol. But it has the correct mount hole spacing & is a vacuum unit.

Try searching KZ650 petcock kit (not KZ650C). other terms: K&L kit. fuel cock. fuel valve. or etc.
You can check the K&L catalogue to get the part numbers.
Z1Enterprises.com may have the K&L rebuild kit or diaphragm kit. and they carry an aftermarket suzuki vac petcock.

oem. Partzilla is showing photos for the tap gasket, diaphragm & spring, so those parts may be available at the dealer. possible fitment: iIt may be that the KZ1000-P police petcock is 44mm. if so, new should be available at the dealer. 51023-1375

Get that spring that Ed linked from ebay and everything else from your favorite dealership source: Diaphragm, O-ring, tap valve gasket/seal, drain bolt gasket, and don't forget new seals for the screws and a new main petcock seal. Renew all the rubber in other words.

OEM parts are vastly superior to crappy K&L rebuild kits that often don't fit.

I'm on break at work now fumbling with my smart phone...

Gentlemen, Thank you all! Everyone of you i had hoped to hear from and you never let me down. So high fives all around!
Ed, I managed to order that elusive spring just now and even on this little screen. There's hope yet for my online shopping prowess (or current lack of as the case may be  ).
Ness, I'll get the rest of the rebuild parts you said tonight at home where i can actually see what i'm doing.
Thanks again boys!

Nessism: What K&L parts have you had problems with? And are you sure it wasn't K&S?
K&L parts are made in Japan & seem to be oem quality imho --- I have never had a problem with their stuff: Fr master cylinder piston kit, Fr brake caliper rebuild kit, caliper piston which appeared to be identical to the stock piston, petcock rebuild kit, diaphragm kit, carb accelerator pump kit, carb gaskets, main jets, fork seals. I'm not saying he shouldn't get oem, but K&L could be a viable option when oem is nla.

K&L master cylinder piston (the metal part) was too big and scraped the bore causing a "squeak noise", not to mention scratching the bore. I had to chuck the metal plunger in a lathe and skim it to make it properly round before it could be used.

On 2 painful occasions I've had K&L brake caliper seals that were the wrong size, too tight, which lead to a spongy feel a the lever. The seals wouldn't allow the pistons to creep closer to the disc.

Countless guys on the GSR site have reported problems with K&L petcock rebuild kits. The parts don't fit and often the wrong parts are in the kit referencing specific model bikes.

And lets not forget the bad shims they sold. There are reports of shattering shims and damaged engines. K&L stopped selling shims for something like 6 months to resolve this issue.

Thanks. that's very disappointing. Have these problems been reported to K&L? obviously, the shims have.
