I was riding across the US and stopped to have the oil changed while on the road. That is when I found that lighter oils would cause the light to stay on. I have about 60,000 miles on the bike now with the only problem I have had was valve seals needed to be replaced.
I live in Oregon now and only rarely ride but usually when it is warm.
I'm no expert on the low pressure sump system engines but I do know that if I was getting an oil light, the first thing I would want to do is read the pressure. It could be dangerously low or it could be OK and the sending unit might be flaky. Here is a gauge:
If the pressure is low, oil pump I first candidate to check.
