davido wrote: Im also sure it will work. What Im wondering about is the spacing twixt the engine block and the mounting plate.
For instance,On my ZXR slave cylinder,I have the cylinder, then a large spring, then the piston, with a ball bearing in the center. This will butt up against the dimple in the end of the clutch push rod.
When the plate is mounted with the slave cylinder in place, and everything is 'at rest' should the piston be fully retracted ,fully compressing the spring ?
How did you space yours?
(My brain is turning over now. Maybe this is somethig to do with why yours didnt work out! Maybe you did get a 14mm bore master cylinder but the spacing of the slave wasnt right??)

Im sure I can sort it when its all together but I would like to set it up dry first as close as I can.

I am using a GSXR 1000 slave cylinder. I opted for it solely due to the fact that it uses 2 bolts and was easier to layout using one center line. The MC was not a 14mm, packing said it was but upon closer inspection, it is stamped 5/8". I will just order one from Shindy and be done with it. The 5/8 MC did move the piston, just not enough. My slave cylinder has a recess with a divet just the right size to cradle my push rod. I spaced my plate so the the slave cylinder is completely collapsed and has solid pressure on the push rod.

Congrats on finally getting your bike out for some test runs. It always makes a guy feel kinda good when your goal is coming together and you're able to finally start enjoying the fruits of your labor. I'm currently looking at 6 mos to a year on the engine build alone for mine (depending on how fast the necessary funds become available lol). Meanwhile I'm hoping to have my paint done sometime this Summer. Congrats again! As with any major project, there will undoubtedly be some minor bugs to be worked out and adjustments to be made here n there, but that's all part of the FUN right? :) ........................................Mike

davido wrote: On another point Jon,did you get youhydraulic cluth working in the end? Im busy with mine again and am wondering if I can get the spacing sorted out 'Dry' without filling the system.Any advice?

I must have missed this David. I would definitely do the spacing with the system dry. If you try to bleed the system without it mounted it will just spit the plunger out and you will have a real mess on your hands.

I am absolutely beside myself. When for another test ride today, currently waiting for a tow truck. I'm having a hard time deciding if I really want to finish this bike. I have never had a project cause me so much time, pain and suffering.

So it was running great, idle through WOT. I turned left started rolling on the throttle hard then cough, cough sputter......dead. Time is out and it won't start, turns over fine but spit a flame out the tail pipe. I just went through everything on the top end last night. I found that the camshafts were out of time again last night. I don't know why the timing would keep jumping. I'm using the stock auto timing chain adjuster. The only thing I can think of is a stretched timing chain. I tried to check it for service limits but what the FSM says and that the actual measurement is, is short thanotice the service limit is. If someone could post what it is supposed to be at "X" number of links I would appreciate it greatly.

The stock auto timing adjusters had problems. You can make yours manual. I ran my timing chain through two rebuilds. This time around I put in a new one. Side by side the old one sagged 1/4". Not enough to worry about.

I don't have an issue with buying an APE manual adjuster if it fixes the issue. I have a DID chain with a peen master link I could put in.

I thought a sight like this from my past would have been evidence enough to convince any guy to put a new chain in! B)
