Well she runs not long enough for a video though.

I made a custom bracket for the fuel system and got it all setup in its new location. Exhaust is on. I actually like

I got the wiring hooked up enough for it to run. It struggled to start and I was scratching my head. It seemed I wasn't getting fuel, yet my fuel pressure gauge was showing 3 psi. I printed a wiring diagram, scratched head, checked for spark. I started to think it was the carb bowl. I shot some gas in the carb and VROOOM! It scared the shit out of me as I forgot how loud the bike is! lol.

I disassembled the carb (which was spick and span from my previous cleaning) and the float needle was sticking. The test for that is blow in the "fuel in" of the carb and move the bowl up and down. Air should stop when you push the float up. In my case it was getting stuck in the up and down transition which I knew something was wrong. So I sanded/cleaned the float needle with a little scotch brite pad and then a splash of wd40. All good.

Hooked it all back up and VRROOM! The jetting is all messed up so I have to dial it in to idle properly. I forget what the fuel regulator was supposed to be set at, I think it might be in one of my pages here.. I had to stop as it was getting late and the bike sounds like a day at the race track; but in my garage..lol.

I feel pretty good though as I got lots done this weekend.

P.S. My steering doest swing enough as I quickly learned moving it in the garage, which will mean more custom work on the upper and lower trees.

the 2 lugs are to be welded to the frame in front of the swing arm pivot to support the outboard bearing support, ties it all together...... makes it stronger

Awesome, thanks!! That makes sense, except they don't drill the holes for those bolts to make it more plug and play, likely because of the welding not going to be 100% exact. Except if the holes were drilled then you could bolt the bungs and tack them on the frame with everything in place. In the end between that, no directions, and the bit of interference on the foot pegs I'm disappointed. It's too bad because a nice piece and the clutch cable mount is ingenious (took me over an hour to figure that's what it was for) and the price is reasonable.

Every body likes video right?

Fixed the major idle surging problems I had before vacation.. I feel pretty smart about finding the issue; I had to vent my ghetto fabulous gas tank! :P

While I made good progress recently, the amount of new set backs is discouraging though. Lower trips are hitting the oil cooler (just noticed. I adjusted the gas tank further back for more clearance now the head light mounts are hitting the gas tank. Steering stops are not giving me enough radius either.

Overall I think I need the custom trips ($$$!!) sooner than I thought. Ones that move the r1 forks forward more (like the stock setup) for overall clearance gains everywhere.

New rear sets are not 100% bolt on and will require modification to support the rear master cylinder and I will need to fab up some delrin bushings to support the rear sets in the rear. Shifter needs a custom rod, and I will have to get a custom kick stand made as it is hitting the rear set rod and too close to the shift leaver. Lastly rear set pre-mounts I got made will need custom back plates.

I did get the rear wiring tidied up but I'm not happy with it, I want it under the seat which is an annoying job.

Overall I don't think I can get it on the street for fall with what is ahead of me so I am thinking of switching gears and working on my TR-1 build as it requires much less work to get on the road for fall.

A little update. Changing focus to my TR1 has provided some benefits. I'm actually fairly close to completing the kz! I'm In talks with Les for custom trips and rear sets. Once That is all wrapped up and in my hands I will switch gears to the KZ to finish it.

1. It allows me to do a mind reset.

2. In my TR1 I build I rebuilt the harness and learned a lot of good things for when I do it to the kz. The yamaha is a lot more difficult than the kawi If you have experience with the old Yamaha electrical you know what I mean.

3. The shop tools increased. Bought a bench sander. Welder and new paint products. All these things make bike building so much easier. I cant believe I used to file by hand...lol.

Oh I forgot.. Z1r fron fairing on its way. B)
