Nelson, I can't remember off the top of my head, but I can check my spare set of cases when I get home this evening. I doubt it does.

BTW that color looks killer on your engine cases. :)

I would use the shop vac and a dental pick to carefully clean that hole. Ed

im not sure if it goes through but why chance the hard work. take it apart and clean it out. it may sound crazy but at least you wont worry about it later.

No sense in tearing it apart when I have a set of bare cases that I will check for him in about two hours. If it's a blind hole then he can clean it out easily without splitting his cases.

Nelson, I just checked my spare cases and that hole is blind. You should be able to pick it, blow it, or tap it. What ever method you prefer to get your holes clean.

No worries about getting any gack into your crankcase there.

Ok I got the hole cleaned out and that cover on. Now I'm trying to decide what to do about this rubber damper thing for the starter clutch. I did the clay measurement in the manual.

Clearance is 7mm. The old damper is 7.26mm thick and has the 2 star marks on it.

The manual says for clearance of 6-7mm use the 2 star damper, for clearance of 7-8mm use the 3 star (thicker) damper.

My clearance is right on the line between the two. How to decide?

Manual says new dampers are 7.3mm or 8.3mm.

Any thoughts?

also - who's got a new needle bearing for that? Bike Bandit did not, and I think Z1 didn't either, but don't remember for sure...

since u are so close, it shouldnt matter.
i would use the damper u have . it may get a little tighter when u torque it .
if u use the thicker 1, it will just ware faster.
did u try your local kawi dealer for the bearing? not sure if they actualy ware out. if there is no obvious ware i would run it. if we can leave the crank bearings in for so long i think we can leave those.
