Hello all.
I have had for almost ten years now a '83 KZ550. I have sat on it without much use. It is a near mint survivor that I bought with 540 miles on the odometer. No kidding. It now has STILL under 1000 mikes on it. This is both good and bad.
In 1981 I had a new KZ550 (candy apple red), which is why I have this bike. I hope to do minor mods to make it a mini superbike, as I have seen others do.
I will pick brains and post pictures! TIA for answers to questions I will have.
A cool site here, with bikes that are becoming unobtanium. They used to be a dime a dozen. Damn I'm getting old!
Cheers

Thanks Steve. It has some oxidation on it now, after being gone through 8-10 years ago. Time to do it again.
I scored a Yosh pipe for it out of Japan, plus a license plate tail tidy. Any resto mods will be reversible as this bike is rare, this clean.
A Maier GPz look alike fairing will go on also, although with the stock round headlight.
I hope to track down an oil cooler the give it some more visual appeal Then off with the perfect, but obviously ancient stock tires.
Of course being stored for so many years it has a couple of scratches.

Thanks Tyrell.
I have light refinishing to do in a couple of areas. Mainly shock springs & gauge housing which have slight oxidation. I guess I should start a light refinishing thread in projects?
Also, I am looking for a rear fender, chopped is ok as thats what I need to use. Not cutting the perfect stocker I have now. Or maybe fab/bend some thin abs and weld edges for the hole where my removed fender is.
For tires, I think the Conti Classic Attack radials could be awesome! In 100/90-19 & 110/90-18 for sizes, which correspond to the 3.25 & 3.75 stockers fairly closely. The stock tires look perfect, BUT, I want to ride this bike a bit.
Currently, there is still under 1000 miles on this bike!

FWIW, my computer says this site has been hacked. Any issues by users here?

Put on the Yosh pipe a couple of days ago, and I am putting on a Maier GPz look alike fairing except for a round headlight, which my KZ has.

Super nice bike. Where did you get the pipe from? I'm doing some upgrades to mine this winter and the exhaust is junk so been looking for new option.

Thanks Wildman. It came from webike out of Japan. Look at the 400, 500 & 550cc four cylinder Kawis, as there are a several KZ550 like models. I think mine was sold as for the Z400. They have the wrong bike pictured, but the headers all show on a KZ500 like bike. They show a lot of headers that are pretty cool. Buy 'em up folks! My Yosh pipe might of been the second to last, whatever that means.
