Por-15 Sealer in Float Bowls? was created by Nessism
I've got several VM float bowls that look good on the outside, but inside the bowl, there is corrosion pitting. I've ground out the pits the best I could, and bead blasted the inside of the bowl to clean it, but they are still not perfect. Does anyone have experience with sealing the inside of the bowl using something like Por-15 tank sealer paint? I've used this stuff on steel before, and it's fantastic, but I'm not sure about using it on aluminum.

Does it matter if the internal bowl surface is irregular as long as they don't leak due to being perforated? They are only a vessel to hold a fuel reservoir for the jets to draw from.
That said, if POR 15 adheres to steel I don't see why it wouldn't adhere to ally.

Ed, I know that you are rather particular with cleaning and rebuilding the carb sets you work on. But the inside of the bowls must look rather bad for you to think about coating them. Can you post some pics of the inside of the bowls? As Warren indicated I do not see how the smoothness or lack there of in a bowl will have much effect on how the carb set works.

First thanks for the pics, now I see what you are dealing with. If it were me I would use them as is, but what do I know.

Eventually the stagnant gas and sediment will fill the gaps.

It's pointless doing anything to them unless they leak and then i would probably sweat some low temp Lumiweld/aluminim solder on the inside to seal any holes.

I would grind and flatten out the deep pores and pockets with a dremel (air bubble traps).
POR15 must be diluted to get a better flow, surface attraction and binding. (Vaccum chamber?)
This would be the way i will do the task.

This entire idea is just a thought at this point. I've got a set of carbs that need float bowls, and the above bowls are good other than the corrosion damage, so...
Thing is, these carbs would be for resale, and I won't sell anything that I'm not 100% confident in. Translated that means I won't likely do this unless I can prove it's solid.

Actually, Por-15 flows well. It's the Caswell's stuff that's like cold honey. Anyway, I'd push it into the pits, just in case of air bubbles, as you say.I would grind and flatten out the deep pores and pockets with a dremel (air bubble traps).

If they don't leak I'd sell them as is with disclosure. They're pretty thick so I don't see any issues down the line unless they're abused like that again.
