 What difference does lowering the fuel levels make?

The carb is designed to best perform with a certain specified level of fuel inside the float bowl.
A too high fuel level results in an excessively rich mixture throughout the throttle range.
A too low fuel level results in an excessively lean mixture throughout the throttle range.

Here's a link to a fairly comprehensive thread regarding 33 smoothies:

Good Fortune! :)

Very interesting but he is asking about his flat slides. My 33's are set up differently but I'll read on and maybe learn something.

I set the floats at 17 mm +/- 1 mm per Mikuni Flatslide instructions, as I imagine most folks do.
Would think there would be clear-tube method instructions somewhere for these carbs, but I have not been able to find any.

Any leads?

I would check them all with the clear tube to see if they are all the same.

Just had our first cold day with snow. Perhaps another few rides before its over for another season here.
Thanks Steve, I'll check that...the last time was a few months ago.
Just curious, have you ever considered getting a set of the Flat Slide carbs for your 900?

It's a 1015 with cams and such. I've thought about it but would rather invest in other improvements first.

I went the RS36, though other members suggested the RS34 would be the better size for my engine. Thought about getting a used set to test, then keep whichever set works better.

The fuel levels were very-close across the set.

Can't help it...I did it again. :pinch: One PO set of RS34-D21-K will surely arrive the day we get blasted with snow.

Reading that thread saying the 33's are slow at low RPM got me to take this clip. Slow?

Rather than starting a new thread I decided to put it here. May have to tweak the carbs so it will rev better.
