I have never used a gauge and always bench sycned with good results.
I could acutally hear how bad mine were out when i got the ole KZ. now its pretty darn smooth.
That said I will be buying a carbtune because well. I Just have to know B)

It's funny because I kinda' thought the same way - I've always just benched the carbs and installed them with great results. Truth is, you could be lucky like this and all will go well and your engine will be a happy little camper.

It wasn't until this kz550a that I have now came along that I ever questioned the value of a synchronization beyond the static bench sync. It ran great but had a couple of oddball issues which suggested unbalanced carburetion.

I wish now that I had taken video of the process because the results for this kz550a have been dramatic and sync'ing was a LOT easier than my brain was telling me it would be. While I'm sure there must be "good, better, best" carb synchronization tools, even the cheapest solutions I've seen (blue dyed water in clear tubes stapled to plywood) is going to be better than not having synchronized your carbs at all.

If I recall correctly the main complaint was the amount of time it took to have carbs serviced (sometimes many months) and the fact that WG wouldn't give an estimated completion date until the carbs were actually on the bench. This left folks with bikes that had no carbs and no idea as to whether or not they would be able to ride during the riding season. I don't recall the quality of work generally being a problem, but I could be wrong. I do remember quite well that WG gave a lot of really good advice on this site until he became annoyed with the occasional negative comments and quit the site. I'm not suggesting those comments were undeserved, but this site did lose a good source of information when WG got pissed and quit. Ed

Syncing the carbs is the last step to fine tuning. Cheap tools/ cheap results. As for the other, all I can say after being in business and my 20 years with the SO, dealing with the public can sometimes be a PITA. :blink:

Other tools other out there work just as well when used properly and at less cost. But if you want a luxurious tool, if tools can be thought of in that manner, then this is it.

I just dont know all i know about using blue dye in tube loops.

A guy on The GS Resources posted photos of his carbs after George worked on them and lets just say the quality of the work left a lot to be desired. Add in a LONG lead time and HIGH cost.

It's a little bit sad that this forum doesn't have some members offering carb rebuild for a nominal fee. I'm quite familiar with the 750 Keihin and Mikuni VM and BS carbs, but time can be an issue. I've got a friend that can do carb rebuilds for a reasonable price. Not sure he's played around with the accelerator pumps on some of the KZ variant carbs though.

I bought a set o refurbished Keihins CV34 from WG a couple of years ago. Work and detail was outstanding.
Some time later, I changed my exhaust and filter and he sent me new slow, primary and secondary jets for free. I didnĀ“t even pay the shipping!

Well, I'm glad that it isn't all negative. Having WG do my carbs has been on my wish list since I first joined the site. I was away for a while and never looked into checking again. I talked with him before getting in the queue and he was fun to talk with.

Going into it I knew that there wouldn't be an ETA for getting them back. But, I really didn't want to fool with the carbs and I wanted a professional to take care of it. So far I'm happy with my decision. I forgot to take before pictures but I'm going to see if he will snap a few off for me so it is easier to show everyone the before/after.

I am going to order the carbtune tool though. Sounds like a good investment and I like that there isn't liquid to come out.

I bought these from Z1E for $65. They have worked perfectly. Once the dampers are adjusted, the gauges are easy to read.
