Welcome to KZRider
More details are needed to give good advice.
You say done right .  Chains don't skip teeth on a a sprocket  without something being wrong
Typically not adjusted properly

Some information on exactly which model you have will also aid in diagnosis because Kawasaki used several variations. For instance, some engines use a roller chain while others have what is called a Hyvo chain. Some have an idler sprocket between the cams, while others have a rubbing block.

My guess based on the information at hand would be a failed tensioner, a failed idler sprocket, a very badly worn or missing rubbing block, or a badly stretched chain.

Do you have a copy of the Kawasaki factory service manual for your specific model? If not, there may be one here at KZR you can download. They are posted under the Articles tab.

Also any resistance to turn for the camshaft (timing incorrect, bent valve. sticking bucket, failed camshaft bearing etc) could cause the chain to skip if there is enough resistance on the camshaft

It's possible the chain isn't on the crank sprocket but sat to the side.

This sounds exactly what i just experienced when the chain had jumped one tooth on my bike. Make sure to release the camchain tensioner bolt and then secure it again .On my bike a kz900 that i have had for about  14 days the chain jumped.Im almost sure the cause is that po owners not reset/service the tensioner adjusterbolt so the chain was loser and loser .
The bolt on my tensioner was really stuck so maybe it was a long time since it had been losened.
