Started out a bit more windy than I care for and only increased going up and over the mtn (over 5000ft). Luckily the wind eased up a bit so I went back a different way. A bit farther than expected, but turned out a hell-of-a day for a ride none-the-less! Turns out this the only pic I made it home with LOL...the Salton Sea, 220(ish) ft BELOW sea level lmao! Go figure. .........................................Mike

Hell you were close to my neighborhood. I coulda postponed my Giant Rock ride to meet a fellow KZRider. There's a little cafe at Bombay Beach on the sea. Coulda had lunch and a beer. My next ride will be to "Slab City" before it gets too hot.

Had I planned to end up that far north, I prolly wld've PM'ed ya. Many of my rides are determined with a coin flip...heads I go east, tails west...next time heads north/ tails south, unless I have a planned destination in mind. Next time I get up that way I'll PM ya and see what's up. I might be up near LaQuinta sometime this Spring or Summer. Julian is one of my regular stops. Many nice weekend days it can resemble a little Sturgis so many bikes pass through going one way or another riding these mtn routes...............................Mike

Good thing I went yesterday cuz the wind REALLY sucks today. Quite alright tho. Can swap my front discs out so I can put the front end together on my spare rider. ..................................Mike

Some good riding that way. Wrang the piss out of my GPz550 more than a few times going from Alpine to Julian and beyond.

The back way to the salton Sea is a long and desolate ride. Bike has to be in good shape. 74 going into Palm Desert takes a lot of bike riders. If it were me I'd take the 215 to the Romona HWY, 79 to the I 10 all the way there.

I just rode up to Julian yesterday for on of my occasional weekend day trips. A popular stop for bikes going all directions. Especially the hot months 'cuz it's so much cooler riding the mountain twisties. I'm the opposite way from the Salton Sea tho'. Most of my riding is local mtn backroads all over the area. Just put another bike together and doing some prelim tuning rides until I can build the motor the way I want it, and do the paint. Julian, Campo...Alpine-El Centro. I flip a coin to pick a direction......................................Mike

I was just looking at Slab City. IT'S GOING TO BE HOT. My way takes you way out of your way. 78 looks better but you need somewhere to land when you get there.I should have gone there last month.
