Rstnick-I was truly nervous when I started drilling because I was afraid I was going to space the holes wrong...it worked out in the end but crap man it was freaking me out hahah

That should look really wicked, don't give up on the tank yet!! it'll be worth the work.
Hows your basic welding skills? i'm not sure if you're able but get some 1-2mm sheet and cut/beat a patch to match contours and mig it? Might take some fill welding but after a good blend you should have a good finish?
I did something similar on my tank....worked out sweet and i'm by no means a panelbeater:)
