Halfway down the page shows a solid ring mount i had to braze to the top of the tank as a combined repair due to an area of very thin metal caused by an old spot weld and corrosion.
I used rivnuts in the tank to bolt it down while brazing and also to mount my home made cap which is the same size as the 400 series Newton type.
With undamaged steel in that area there is no need for anything like that.

Here's a link to a page on my old Drouin build on the Z1 GB forum. Thanks for the input guys. Tank should be here in a day or two and I can see what I'm dealing with.

Thanks, but for the cost of getting it shipped here I can just by a new newton cap.
Got the tank yesterday. Drew a rough line of where the cap will go and it's pretty flat. Just need to decide if I want to sink the cap so it's flush with the top of the tank or just screw it straight to the tank and have it stick up a couple of mm's. The benefit of using one of the countersunk weld-in rings is that they will completely cover the recessed area so I won't have to fill it ( www.wwag.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WebSite....tion?page=%21WW24480 ).

Although it's more work I prefer to see them recessed, looks more "factory" IMO

Neat.
What's the benefit of those? I've always seen it targeted towards drag racers, but never really knew why.

To make room for the turbo, or a Drouin supercharger.

No turbo on this build - I've got my work cut out for me as it is
For me it's an aesthetics thing. With pod filters and no side covers I want to keep as much out of sight as possible. With the low profile cover I can run the breather tube up to the oil cooler mounts and from there up under the tank - should be nicely hidden away.

I ran one of those low pro covers for a while because i though it looked cool but by eliminating the factory breather baffle it meant a good amount of oil mist would come out. I ended up switch back to factory as it made a mess but i didnt have the hose routed as long as you are planning. might want to consider a catch can.

Thanks, current plan is routing the hose up under the tank then along under the seat to a catch can in the tail section.

After working through last weekend I haven't had much time to get things done. Took it easy today as it was my first day off in two weeks. Just made some spacers for the tail mounts. Will see if I have time to do the bracket for the rear mounts tomorrow - or maybe get the battery mount finished.

I'm trying to get everything under the seat and the tail section sorted. Basically all of the electrics and the catch can.
Just wondering how hot the regulator will get. I originally planned on mounting it on the bottom of the electrics tray ("sunk" up in to the tray to keep it out of sight). This would have exposed it to a decent amount of air flow. Just wondering if it's worth the trouble with the Ricks reg/rec that I'll be using. Thinking of just mounting it where it is in the picture below, or maybe further back where there will be more space above it - there'd be no air flow though.
