Engine is currently being put together and bottom end is already complete. Head and jugs will be on later in the week.
Hard to believe this engine was in a bike that hit the guard rail going 125 mph at our local race track last year - huh?

Hey Tyrell,Tyrell Corp wrote: I am also running dual plug and will cut back the ignition advance to avoid heat and detonation.
Interesting, the zephyr ZR1100 had a dual plug head too. Can these be fitted to a gpz11? ( The ZR550 block and head also had larger fins, even though a lot less than GPz550 power)
Something I really don't like to see on bikes is wrapped headers, it is supposed to reduce underbonnet temperatures in cars and it is claimed that keeping the headers really hot is good for performance. Whether it works on a bike I don't know but you might be shifting a bit more heat from the front of the head to the back and out of the exhaust if you can tolerate the look of wrapped headers.
Good thread, keep it coming
I've put dual plug in my own 1395 KZ-J, project, but haven't tried it out yet (I've got 11 project bikes of my own on the go at the moment, and not enough free time for half that many - multiple motorcycle disorder, as my insurance lady calls it...). I was hoping to reduce maximum ignition advance to 30 -32 degrees with dual plugs, thereby reducing heat and increasing power and efficiency. That is the theory, and maybe wishful thinking, anyway...
What net reduction in ignition advance did you end up with?
The Zephyr 1100 engine is not based on the classic Z1 / KZ / GPz series - it was derived from the 8 valve, plain bearing crankshaft 1200 cc liquid cooled Voyager II touring bike engine of the late 80's. Fantastic engine it is, but not much of anything is interchangeable with the big KZ's. I think at one time Kawasaki was planning to use it as a factory backed replacement for the aging KZ in Pro-Stock drag racing, but that never happened.
Jberger had insulation wrapped headers when he first bought his GPz1100, if I'm not mistaken...and the theory is sound. I myself refuse to put the tape on a bike, though...pain in the ass to keep clean.

Ok, some photo comparison of MTC 1395 big block vs. stock KZ1000-J. Let's play "can you see the difference"!

Hey RODZ,
Can't do that here / yet! I had to remind myself this is jberger635's thread; even though I'm having fun helping out a little with some of the machine work / custom parts, I didn't really want to highjack his project's thread. If it aligns with what he is doing with his GPz, then I'll post it here. Otherwise....
FYI - My own 1395 engine is very similar to his, and I'll start a new project thread on it after I'm done with the builds I have to get done first - a KZ650 for semi-restoration, a crashed Yama - Ha-Ha R1, a 75 'Zuki T500 stroker in for too many repairs, and a pair of KZ1000's for custom builds. Then my 1395...
