KZ1000 1977 goose Bike build

It has always been a dream of mine to build the goose bike. I have been checking out KZs for years. Recently my friend got a 77 KZ that was sitting for years. He knew about my desire to build a goose bike. We struck a deal and I'm on my way.
It's all there for the most part. Engine isn't seized. 14,000 miles on the engine.. I have it pretty much apart now. I'm in the process of acquireing all the reobuild parts. I recently bought the aluminum mag wheels. Fortunately it's not to far gone. I'll keep you all posted. Should be done the basic bike by spring.

Looks like U picked a good 'build bike' to start from. Of course the obvious 1st major 'rider safety' concern before proceeding with any build with a rough bike is chassis condition and straightness from the steering head all the way to the swingarm pivot arm bolt. A good thorough frame inspection from head to tail is never a bad idea especially if you don't know the bike's complete history, or if you can't be certain that a bike had never been carelessly abused or wrecked. I'm sure you undoubtedly already know all of that but I have seen future handling problems (after a long complete build process) traced back to a tiny hairline fracture in a weld somewhere in the frame, or a very slight kink in the swingarm pivot area or steering head created from a wreck somewhere in a bikes past history. One can never be too careful when rider safety is concerned, especially with the power and torque that KZ's are capable of. If you don't mind, could you take pics of the oil cooler hook ups at the engine. Looks like they bypassed them without fittings.
A good starting point for a restore.

This is what I started with.

Goose is the name of a character played in the movie Mad Max, he is referring to the bike Goose rode in the movie.

Yeah and it didn't turn out so well for him.

When it came up last year, I dug out the VHS and watched it again. I kept asking myself, "what happened to Mel?" I ask that of myself form time to time. :lol:

I'll be honest and admit I had no idea what a "Goose Bike" was, but was afraid to show my ignorance by asking when I looked at the thread last night, so decided to wait and see if it became apparent from the thread replies. I feel better now I see others are in the same boat. As I've only seen Mad Max once and that was close to when my KZ's were being built, I don't feel too bad for not remembering Goose or his relevance.

I will either have to just follow thread or watch the movie again to see what you are attempting to create

He had this type of fairing on it. I like the color and teeth better. :lol:

LOL me too. I thought it might be a dumb question when I asked it, but then again I am one of those that can remember childhood vividly but have a hard time remembering last week lmao!
