Me too. I have always loved these since I saw my first one. Unfortunately, it was in the parking lot at college and I had to park my borrowed moped next to it (starving student). Here is my revenge :P :

That's an awesome bike! I wish mine was that nice. I definitely would do my best to keep it original.

Hey now, you bike IS nice and it's made better by the sweat, blood and tears you have put into it. I love the single round headlight. Your bike stands out.

Thanks, I very much appreciate that. I wasn't trying to disparage my bike, I'm actually very pleased on how good it's turned out so far. Just commenting on how great yours is in original condition. Is it a survivor or restoration?

The headlight is probably the only mod I've made that want also practically or mechanically necessary to some degree. That naked square light was terrible. Came off a 82 Spectre BTW.

Mine is a survivor. Minus a couple of changes here and there (updated fuses, pods, removal of stock bars), it's original and by that I mean original paint and parts. I own the original bars and airbox so it's pretty complete from the ground up.

Quick update.

I've been having a blast! It's not running perfect but well enough. I went up a grade in gas and it helped some. I put premium in it yesterday, let's see what happens with that.

I did get a DS2-2 for it but haven't installed it yet. Giving the priority to the KZ1000 which should be running soon.

The worst issue I'm having is I'm losing oil. I'm down to the bottom mark nearly every other day, approx 150 mi. It wasn't doing this the first few weeks I rode it. I thought it was the oil plug leak which has been stopped and maybe some miscellaneous gasket seepage. This wouldn't account for this much loss or would it? I have gotten above red line a few times unintentionally, it loves to rev. The tail pipe is a little sooty but not oily like I'd expect for a large amount of oil burn.

It looks like I get to pull the head and cylinders after the 1k is up and running well.

30 year old valve guide seals. If you're burning a little oil they can cause fouling which in turn cause incomplete combustion thus sooty plugs. I was using 1 QT every 200 miles. Went through the head and it stopped burning oil.

Thanks, I'll plan on doing at least that.

APE can replace the stock valve guides with Bronze when they rebuild a head. That is what they have done to my heads.
