The swingarm in the pic is donating it's life to research. That was one of my original arms built almost 20 years ago for an ltd 750. I managed to cut and weld on that thing for 3 hrs getting that shock in a good location for complete travel. So far I've been able to adjust both preload and compression rate just by changeing mounting holes for the actuator arms and lower shock mount. By totally doing away with the ZX6 hardware I was able to start with a clean slate. After much pondering I figured all it did was to amplify the springs travel rate. This is my setup to experiment with how it works now.
Understand that isn't the finished parts, just mockup parts to get the design to function as it did on the ZX6.
I really like your approach of learning exactly how the geometry of the single shock works rather than resorting to guesswork and just welding something on your bike and counting on luck to make it work right. Good planning is really important in a quality build. Keep up the good work. Ed

This was a real 78 Z1R turbo, it had perfect paint that was actually put on another Z1R turbo that had paint damage but had less than 2000 miles on it. Ended up in West Virginia doing 1/8 mile dirt dragracing.

i aint worried! :laugh:Oh yea of little faith PLUMMEN, I am aware of the rareity of the Z1R and I paid some good coin for this due to the fact it was an unmolested chassis only to get it here and the rear peg holders have been chopped off. To calm you real heartfelt guys down I'll tell you now, I'm putting the Z1R body parts on the KZ frame and the Z1R frame is going into storage till I can get all the parts together to build a complete one or buy a complete one. Here's a pic of one a friend built back in 92. Believe it or not but the only frame mod on this thing was a 5 deg. rake

ive got enough stuff to keep me occupied for next 20 plus years without touching same project twice, now that im retired me and the wife have been doing our weekend runs running up/down the highways hitting all the antique stores in a 200 mile radius.
i spotted what looks like 62-64 ford f600 truck in a town in missouri sitting in a field .saturday which wouldnt normally be a big deal but this one had what looked like a marmon/harrington 4x4 conversion done on it,my wife has gotten used to 20 mile side trips down the dirt roads in the middle of nowhere with me chasing my tail! :woohoo:
