Thanks, and nope, no stock air box. This bike is going to very minimal looking, going for the "see through" look. I'll prob run K&N pods, all the electrics will be mounted flat and under the seat, the battery will be mounted under the bum stop on the seat as well. I want very little showing B) I also have figured out how I want to do the under loop brace on the swingarm, but I'll finish doing the frame work first.

A couple more pics for your viewing pleasure. I now have all the work done on the frame, tank mounts/seat mounts/bracing/inner fender mounts/de tabbed/ground smooth, etc. and mocked it all up to make sure it all works. Next is to get the frame to the powder coaters. Do a removing of the fender strut mounts on the fork lowers, and remove the handle bar mounts on the top triple clamp (going with clip ons)and I'll get those to the powder coaters. I also weighed all the parts, and came up with a total bike weight at 432 lbs! I was hoping for somthing in the 450 range, and it looks like I am going to be well under that! Yee haww!

I really like your seat pan. Do you have any pics on the process?

The pics of the seat proccess are on page 1 of this thread :woohoo:

531blackbanshee, that swinger looks fantastic! I played around with mine, and didnt really see how I could make it work without doing a funky bend on the left side for chain clearences. Am I missing something? And does the "black banshee" mean that you have a Yamaha Banshee that is painted, well, black?

the chain goes through the swingarm.

the 531blackbanshee means that i have an old banshee that i used to tt and short track race, that has a black fullbore race face, white rear plastics with a black and white checkerboard seat cover bringing both ends together.531 was my race number :) .

just seemed like to long for a screen name to list all that,so i went with 531blackbanshee :silly:  :P .

keep us posted on your progress.

Crap! I don't know how I missed that. Where do you find your supplies at?

As far as supplies go, I actually do a lot of mold making for my work, so the foam is 1# mold making/sculpting foam, and can be purchased through most mold making supply distributors (although pretty exspensive). The hard coat is "Line X", most towns will have a installer that does truck beds and the like. Epoxy primer is a Trannstar product from auto paint supplier, the fiberglass cloth/matt and resin can be found at the same auto paint supplier.

A lot of guys will use 2" extruded foam that you can get from Home Depot, etc. and just glue it up to the width they want, and I have seen others use the green flower arranging type foam. To say time and $, you can eliminate the making of a permanent mold, and use tape to cover the foam once you have the shape. You would then release the taped up foam with something like Poly Vinyl Alchohol, or several coats of wax, then just lay up the fiberglass over that. This proccess will take quite a bit of smoothing out the lumpy resin, and require the use of quite a bit of body filler (bondo), but I have seen some nice seats made this way (I always prefer the making of a mold, and this allows me to make several casts instead of a one shot deal).

Hope this helps

I have a custom woodshop, we not only do fine woodworking, but also a lot of architectual concrete products (duplicating old precast pieces on buildings, etc., hence the mold making), and I also do a fair amount of metal work. Sort of an "all around" type shop.

RLB454 wrote: Hey guys, Just signed up and I am sure that I will have a bunch of questions for my next project. I just adopted a 93' Police cruiser, and plan to turn it into a cafe racer. I am not new to old school cafe bikes, and pretty handy with fabrication, so the basic build should be a snap, but this is the first KZ I have ever had.

My first question is what years will this 93' cross over with? Body parts, electrical, motor components, etc. All of the police goodies will go away (of which are for sale, pm me if interesed), and I want to replace the wiring harness with a standard model. Any ideas for this bike are greatly appreciated.

Here is a pick as it sits now:

And here is my last project I finished a couple months ago. 79' Yamaha RD400F "Daytona Special" (2 stroke baby!). 2 years in the making, and a complete down to bare metal resto:
