Replied by DOHC on topic 76 KZ900 Singarm Swap Out
24 Jul 2024 12:39
There are a lot of custom sport bikes with extended swingarms, but I don't have a clue where those are made. My guess is that they are custom, and I'd probably look around for custom bike shops that do fabrication.
The early '80s GS1100 swingarm is a bolt on swap for the KZ900/1000 frame. It's aluminum, and longer than the KZ arm. But I don't have any idea if it will fit the wheel you have in mind. The stock wheels were definitely not that wide at the time.
No matter what you do, you're likely going to need to do some fabrication. Rear wheel size is not the only variable. There are tons of different axles sizes, axle spacers, and brake mounting setups.
The one place I know of that does really cool looking custom swingarms and other bits is Patriot Racing (formerly Motogpwerks). They purchased the rights to CalFab, and have been making modern recreations of period CalFab swingarms. My guess is that if you have the budget, they might be willing to make a custom setup for you.

Chris Redpath, the owner of MotoGPwerks in Anaheim California bought the rights to Calfab a couple of years back, he has been producing "improved" Calfab swingarms.

I love my motogpwerks pipe. It did take some fettling to get it to fit how I wanted, but I wanted a period Yosh, and, well, they just aren't available for less than a first born AND a knee-high stack of $20s. It has a different kind of bark than a V&H or Kerker. I do ride with hearing protection, and the dump IS behind meSo are you goin to keep the system and make a silencer for it? if so im interested in this as i have a MotoGpwerks and i thought it was me just getting older that it sounded too loud.

I liked how loud it was when i first got it but I was riding down a residential street the other day and this grandma saw me coming and doubled over to cover up her ears. Felt a bit like an ass so I decided to make a muffler. Also I'm not that big of a fan of the attention it draws. So are you goin to keep the system and make a silencer for it? if so im interested in this as i have a MotoGpwerks and i thought it was me just getting older that it sounded too loud.

I had a Hindle on one of my bikes, the model with the flat collector. It has since been replaced with a Kerker and more recently a Yosh copy made by Motogpwerks. All good stuff.

Hi Rich, did you buy it from Chris at motogpwerks ? If so, could you give me the dimensions of the main alloy top piece as that would be all I need. I know a guy that has computer cnc machines and I'm thinking of making my own, well, having him make the top for me, I want to fit the caps I pictured above it, all i know is that its 220mm long and 120mm wide, I need to know all the other obvious dimensions but don't want to bother Chris for them.... Also, would you know what grade of alloy its made from ? 6061 maybe...Hey Mick, I have the same quick fill I bought years ago with the same problem of finding a cap for the same tank, eventually I was able to locate a cap but since then they have skyrocketed in price as you know. I had the same idea of putting the quick fill and bought the same one , I must say its the perfect shape tank for a quick fill and had i not found one I would have done the same . I still have my quick fill and will be using eventually or selling .
Thanks mate...
