Agreed! I'm going to be putting zx9 forks on and I'm going to make sure everything is stable prior to using an added stabilizer. Makes no sense putting a bandaid on bigger issue.

So,things are finally happening again. The Bandit wheel is looking good.
I had some spacers made up to fit the 20mm axle into the huge 30something hole in the gixxer swingarm.
I bought a handfull of washers from the local hardware shop to fill it all out
and got the wheel fitted and locked up
With a little adjustment, its all evened out and the wheel is CENTERED.
Its taken a long time and a lot of trial and error to get to this point but It looks like its all going to work.
Now,I can get the chainline measured up and have the sprocket carrier turned down.
Ive been looking at a 525 or 530 chain set. This should come with a 9mm (+ - ) thick rear sprocket (though I still have to confirm this before I get anything cut)
So,based on that,this is where I am at the moment;
and this is where I want to be
If I get 13,5mm turned down off the sprocket carrier, that should put it right where I want it and give equal clearence either side of the chain.Twixt the chain and tyre and twixt the tyre and frame downtube. Again I have to check the width of the 525/530 chain but I think there'll be no problem. And the Bandit sproket carrier has a lot more meat on it than the ZXR400 that I tried before.
So the next thing is a chain and sprocket set.If anyone has any info on chain/sprocket thicknesses, it would really help,as so far,i can only find diameter/tooth count dimensions.
P.S. as I said earlier,I had problems with my flaptop. Its fixed now but I lost a load of the later build photos. The earlier ones were backed up thankfully.

thanks for the kind words cory, much appreciated.NakedFun wrote: Leon,
Fantastic work as always, and just an overall good guy. I have to ask, why twin shocks for the rear? Is the leverage with that long swinger too much for just one of those air springs?
Cory
the guys at
dirtyworks-kc.com/products/dirty-air-diy-rear-air
where we got the air ride kit from said that if it was over 500lbs we would need two shocks.
vic,
i am going to try to get him to keep me updated on the build so i can update this post.

I've been in love with the kz for 40 years, and have always wanted one. A few months back I came apon a 1974 z1 that had a big bore kit put in it in the late 80's, than was promptly rode into the back of a car. The guy took the z1 home and stuck it in his shed, where it say for 25 years. We'll I found it. Bought it. And now I finally have my kz I've wanted since I first heard that kerker on my neibors bike when I was a kid. I fitted a gsxr 750 front end, and gsxr600 monoshock swingarm in the rear. And am now trying to sort the engine out. The engine spun over fine. But it sat for so long, I figured I should get a good look at it. So, I took the head and the cylinder bores off the case. But the pistons are not what I expected. I know it's a "semi-hemi" head, but the piston dome resembles a volcano waiting to bust. I have worked on several hemi car engines, with dome pistons, but never a motorcycle engine, and not one with such a large dome. My question is this. Why is piston dome so misshaped? I assume to increase compression. And if so I have. Stock cams and carbs. Kind of a waste if high compression?
