I'm happy to report the Tach and Speedo work perfectly even with a spongy cable. The Tach pulses a little at idle which suggests to me, the drive is bent or worn out. At speed they both hold steady. :woohoo:

I put the old mileage on the tape until the rear tire wears out so I know how many miles I'm getting out of it. She seems happier with new gauges or maybe it's me  . Time to detail her out again and make her match the new gauges. A labor of love. Everything I put into her, I get just that much more back.
I got stalled on my other tank a few months ago, Time to get it done too. Makes me wonder how I could have let her sit for 15 years like that. :(

Every time I sit on her she feels new. :woohoo:

They wanted $415.00 buy it now. I watched the auction and no one was bidding on it for $250. I set the notification to 15 minutes and bought it then. I have my eye on some other things. Looks like sales are slow now.

Well after 4000 miles my new gauges are having a problem The odometer stopped working. The trip meter was sticky and hard to set. The other day I tried to reset it and that's when the odometer stopped working. I sent z1partsinc a message telling them about it. We'll see what they have to say. The speedo still works well but I need the OD.

Steve, that's a bummer man. They look really nice too. Hopefully z1 will fix you up.
I've restored dozens of speedometers in my life so ... Typical mechanical speedometer operation works on the principle of induction. The drive cable spins a weighted disc which in-turn induces another disc that is attached to the needle you see. A specific spring pre-load determines the needle's accuracy & of course it's ability to return to zero.
The odo, however, is mechanically driven by the same cable via a (typically) helical plastic gear. I've seen these gears bind-up (usually from dirt entering and contaminating the grease). Often either the primary helical gear or it's driven mating gear will strip due to being bound-up. I have also seen them crack (quality control problem).
The trip reset spins the numeral reels forward as if simply driving it clicking the numerals sequentially until they all cycle to zero. This reset action usually has no interaction with that helical drive gear or the mating driven gear.
So... it sucks because given the description, i believe you have a broken unit by obviously no fault of your own. It will require the unit be dismantled & those gears being replaced.
Sigh.

Can you move the OD with the reset wheel or is it jammed?

I can reset it but I think the worm gear is stripped. When I noticed the trip meter has sticky and hard to set I sent a e-mail about it. No response. I bought a alternator stater at the same time. When the wires got chewed I sent a e-mail, got a response telling me their mechanic would contact me the following Monday. He didn't. We'll see what happenes this time.

Z1 parts sent me a message they will give me a full refund plus the shipping if I send it back. I asked them if they would exchange the speedo instead. I bought the set so I will have to put my old ones back on. I was thinking on sending my old ones in for repair.
We'll see.

I got this message,

New message from: z1-parts-inc (23,947YellowShooting Star)
Hi,
Please send them back for full refund.
Sorry for the trouble. We will also take care of your shipping charges.
Please attach a note inside the package so our secretary can take care of it when we receive it.

Factory has told us ,they fixed the problem...
Regards,Jasmine

I replied saying I'd rather get a exchange for a working set and I don't mind shipping one way.
The speedo is rock solid.
We'll see.
