Hello,

Just got my a 1983 kz750 Ltd4 a couple months ago, wouldn't start so I cleaned the carbs and she's up and running! Realized after taking it around the block that the throttle hangs open if I don't push it back and there's not enough force on the throttle cable to return back to idle.

Here's a couple questions:
1. Is it supposed to have a return cable?
It only came to me with one cable for the throttle. I didn't notice a spot for a return cable connected to the carbs or anywhere to screw one in.
2. Is it possible the return spring is just weak?
I put some oil down the throttle tube hoping it would help but it didn't seem to really aid my situation. The return spring works, but I have to push the cable back so far before it starts to actually pull it back. I adjusted at both ends but there seems to be some play that I can't get rid of.

I am hoping I don't have to remove the carbs to get to the spring, but I looked and it looks like I might. Any tips?

Thanks,
Jakob

If yours is a 1983 H4, then I believe it is supposed to have two cables. However, it should work ok with just one. I think the 750 F1 used a single cable, as did the 1980 H1.
Perhaps your cable is gummed up or fraying. If you are following the proper factory procedure for adjusting the cable, you should easily be able to adjust all of the slack out unless the cable is really stretched.

I'm not familiar with the H4 but i believe it uses the same carbs as the E1. The spring was super weak on the rack i rebuilt I added a stiffer spring and it solved the issue.

Thank you so much for the replies. I will check the cable adjustment procedure to make sure I'm doing it correctly and will look into springs. @DoctoRot - which spring did you end up going with? I'm checking online right now for spring and found one on ebay for 40 bucks. I'm hoping I can find something cheaper.

Thanks,
Jakob

I added an extra pin and a spring from the hardware store. It wasn't the most elegant solution but it worked.

Have you guys seen a throttle cable like this? I'm trying to buy a new one and cannot for the life of me find one with that sort of circular lip that comes out just before the curve.

Trying to find one with threads on the other end.

Your bike/carb/RH throttle is a pull only cable driven. Try to read the part# that is print on. It make the search much easier for all of us.

Alternative you can buy a slotted adjustment screw.
