Side covers
04 Jan 2016 08:51
Anyone out there have access to a pair of side covers for a 1980 KZ750-G1 LTD II ? If so I'd really really appreciate it if you could post some pics and/or drawings showing the overall dimensions and the locations of the pins that you stick it to the frame with. I'm trying to figure out if they could be made to fit my 76 750 B1 twin. Alternatively maybe somebody already knows the answer to the fitment. I know (assume at least) I'll have to relocate the tabs and weld them on. If they can be made to fit and you have a pair and are interested in selling them I'm willing to pay decent coin for a pair in good shape.

Trivia: odd I know, but Left hand side panels seem 2 or 3 times rarer than Rights, certainly for the GPz 's.

Thanks Pete
I know I can buy a pair but I'm just trying to get an idea how well or poorly they would fit inside the triangles and I've found lots of Ebay sellers are a bit assholish about providing measurements. Besides I'd just as soon spend money on the KZR community if someone wants to sell before going to Ebay

That is odd. You'd think more rt side side covers would get trashed as its altogether to common to get hit on the right side as your turning left. Maybe because most riders are right handed when they dump they tend to fall on their weaker side?

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationJust in case you aren't aware, the 76-79 750-Twin side covers are probably interchangeable. I did some searches & it looks like the best you can do right now is about $40-50/pair (total shipped).

Thanks Martin
I knew that, in fact I have a perfectly good set of 750 B1 side covers that came with my bike but dayum I find them butt ugly
I like the simple trapezoidal shape of the 80 750 LTD II, works with the look I'm going for I think. Hell I'm even considering (horrors I know) early-mid 70's Honda CB covers.

They are UG. I'd measure to be sure something else would work.

They are so ugly I ground the old tabs off just to be sure I never went weak and put them back on. Now I realize I'm going to have to weld new tabs on to grip some other side covers. Maybe ,just maybe, some other model like the 80 750 LTD II would have just snapped on but that ship has sailed. I can measure the triangle and post those dimensions but its really about what fits and looks good in the existing triangle, not gonna modify the frame to accomodate plastic side covers!

You destroyed them? I was going to suggest fiberglassing them to make them fit the triangle. :S
