08 Aug 2015 08:03 - 08 Aug 2015 08:11Were the parts from a 750E? I looked in the diagrams but didn't see a tray. A photo would be cool. Thanks.By Nessism: I just recently bought a tail section assembly off ebay just to get the internal tray and owner's manual compartment. My 750E came from the previous owner with some cheesy alarm box and subsequent holes drilled through the internal tray and cover, and I wanted the bike put back to stock. Not a value oriented purchase, but restoration insanity took over. ....
Here's a 750E tail w/ both storage covers.

That's the tail I bought!
The bike has a small tray to hold the tool kit, but that's the only tray I'm aware of other than the little compartment for the owner's manual.

...Finding a plastic case that's a good fit is probably going to be a tall order.
I got lucky with a bag exactly the right size, from some Christmas present packaging.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationYou can get a inexpensive tool pouch like the ones for over the forks to put in there.

Thanks Nessism. I thought you got a tray that fits under the tail. That large tray in the last item pic is listed as a storage cover which led me to believe there might be some sort of storage case under it --- nope, I guess not.

I just bought some things off a 82 KZ750E from the local classifieds. Among other things was the tail piece with the inner shelf and document/manual pocket. I'm going to see if I can adapt that to my tail piece.

It fits! Not perfectly but it is pretty close. I just kind of wedged it in there for now and will do the fine fitting later but It almost goes straight in. It's going to be functioning as a rear inner fender right now as I just pulled off the stock one because it had a huge hole burned into from some wayward PO welding.
The angle on the front is a little off as are the mounting holes. The tab at the end is slightly wide for the tubes back there but it's less than 1/8" on each side. I'll have to put something on the back side to make it a box again as well. It is exactly what I was hoping for.

I bought a
Bikemaster 17 piece tool kit
off eBay. I took out the 2 spark plug sockets I didn't need and replaced them with a 17 mm deep socket, U-joint and extension and added a pair of wiring pliers. It fits in the tail piece perfectly, It wont be so snug after I get the shelf completely fit and maybe I can put in a better flashlight.
