My rattle can work was created by Jerod
I did some rattle can painting on my 650's tank. I wanted to prove that I could do it. I think it turned out pretty well in the looks department, though no one seems willing to comment on whether the paint will stick around after the first fuel dribbles.

I took it completely down to bare metal. Used some filler in a couple spots that I didn't have the tools to smooth. Coated it in 2 medium coats of etching primer. 2 very light coats of Rustoleum engine enamel, and 1 coat just shy of running. 4 progressively lighter coats of U-Pol clear. Basically an entire $20 can of spraypaint. Hours of wet sanding and rubbing compound. And some beers.

A couple shots of different angle in different light. Tell me what you guys think. And let me know if this was all an effort in futility. I used the engine enamel/u-pol on the logic that engine enamel should be resistant to petroleum, and u-pol claims 2k durability in a spray can.

Looks great! Very high quality looking job. They do claim that it has 2K performance. But no specifics. I think that even 2K urethane is only fuel resistant and not fuel proof. Which I take to mean as long as you wipe it of quickly in case of spillage and not let it soak in fuel. However, although I have used 2K myself, I am extremely careful when I fill up.

I appreciate all the kind words. Still have to get the side covers and tail piece to match. They're currently pretty rough because I was impatient and overly aggressive in the original paint removal. I tried using the same aircraft stripper I used on the tank. When I didn't get the same results, I left it on longer. That didn't work fast enough, so I left it on even longer, and in the blazing sun. That sure did the trick. Nearly ruined the plastic too! There's a lot of pitting that had to be skimmed, results were less than stellar. The rest of the project is still looming over me. I need to have a fresh go at the plastics, but I'm still almost a year away from getting to come home, so everything is on hold unless I farm out the work.

Nice work!

Waxing the paint I believe will help protect it from gas spills.
Not full proof, but does add a layer of protection.
