What color to paint my Z1 900?
17 Jan 2009 20:31
I have been playing arount the idea in my head as to what color my 900 will be after the rebuild. As of now it is Grabber Green, very close to kawi green, dont get me wrong i love the color but want to change it up. I was fooling around today in the garage and shot the side covers and tail in glossy black. I will admit glossy black really looks sharp, i think the bike would look killer with the body work shot in glossy black. Im also going to do the frame in the traditional glossy black. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim. Here is a pic of the bike in the summer after i just ainted it grabber green.

My bike is gloss black right now, but I'm going to change it back to stock this spring. To me, there's nothing better than the stock colors on these old sleds.

The gloss black with grabber green stripes would make for some awesome contrast. One question: Would you leave the rear fender all green, or pinstripe it as well? I personally like the all-green fender - too many guys lack the courage to paint the fenders (I'm one of them) and yet everytime someone does it looks great. Give it a try and keep us posted.

not sure if i will keep the rear fender green, or paint it black with the green stripes. Oh well i have until spring to choose a color, if i do go with the black and green stripes, i will base it off of the original 74 z1 900 paint job.

That green rear fender is a bit to much in the pic. I'd go black body with chrome fenders. Go with a 4/1 V6H or Kerker too. Just looks period correct that way.

Oldkaw, if you decide to go stock (and no offense to PaintWorkz meant) its a fair bit cheaper to buy a
painted set of bodywork
from Z1E than to have your body panels repainted by someone like PaintWorkz who can closely reproduce the original look.

thanx god we all don't like the same thing. there is nothing i hate more then stock paint. i like the green, as for the rear fender do something with it but don't leave it green. here are some picts of zeds and kz's i've had over the years to give you some ideas. someone said red and they do look good in red, also gloss black. one of my favorite was black cherry. the purple is plum crazy cause my wife likes purple.
