UPDATE: Contacted Witt Disintegrating Service in Addison. Ralph the owner can do the job in a two business day turnaround! I then contacted the Machine Shop I was intending to use. Explained the opportunity to have it worked on in 2 days vs. 2 weeks. He is all good with that. He really was reluctant to take on in the first place. I will meet him later this afternoon, pick up the fork leg and then run about 45 minutes to Addison, IL. Will drop off today to start the process. The cost is now $40. quite reasonable vs. what havoc I have wrought.

Glad to be of assistance, every now and then you strike lucky with a "google search". Things have come a long way from spending days on the phone and a whole weekend driving around to find a part - god bless the internet

Good News: The disintegration service removed the steel stud from the aluminum fork leg. No damage to report. Ralph Witt of Witt Disintegration Service informed me he did re-tap the thread. The replacement stud does thread in with less resistance than the other stud hole on the fork leg. However, it holds. I have applied anti-seize lubricant to the stud bolt threads. I am now ready to move on with reinstalling the wheel, Before re-attaching the fender and headlight, I am upgrading the front brake line with a new Spiegler steel braided setup.
Thanks to all who lent a hand.

After re assembling the front forks , I took my KZ on a local shakedown cruise. Discovered the tach cable broke. Ordered the cable seal and that little orange gasket. Put it all back together. She’s a bit cold blooded and needs some warming up . It is now running just fine!

Great looking bike. Cold blooded seems to be standard equipment on the whole KZ line.
