'96-'97 ZX9R swap to '77 Kz1000 LTD Frame

thanks for posting the Webike page. I was looking for that without luck.

The only reason I had concerns about cutting into the top yoke to create the drop. I had ask Roy if he had a slimmer version of them. He mentioned that the one he linked me to (the one I posted) was the slim one. Just brought up a concern if he is considering it a slim/lighter unit if you remove material it makes it even thinner. I wasn't trying to disparage Roy and his work. I wouldn't have reached out to him in the fist place if I had concerns of his quality. Just a persons objection.

Since my zx6r forks are shorter than the zx9 ones my ground clearance is low, but manageable. At some point I will raise it up but in my opinion it is too expensive for a drop top yoke, I will be doing what Zed has done. Will just have to find somebody to make them for me and I will do it when I need to change the fork oil anyways.

Be sure to bore a 3mm hole up the center of the extension to allow the passage of oil for the damping adjuster .

i've modified a few zx9 uppers to get the upper about 7/8's lower to the frame by machining off the boss on the bottom and machining a new piece and welding it in.

quite a bit of work for less than an inch. but when your chasing ground clearance that might be the lil bit it takes to keep the header off the ground.

Sorry about the confusion, i was just offering a side by side comparison of the trees in material thickness and clamping area if you were interested.

I am using a Spiegler (aka ABM or LSL) Superbike steering bar top yoke. Never had any ground clearance issues with my fork legs lowered by an Inch.

Thank you. I have a complete fork and triples from both the Kz1000 LTD and the '96-'97 ZX9R. What I really need is how to measure the drop on the Kz upper yoke, Nessism mentioned its about an inch. I'd like to know how to measure that. Then once I know that then I can measure the clamping points on the ZX9R forks to determine if a drop is also needed on the lower yoke so the clamping point will land on the larger OD as it would on the ZX9R OEM trees.

to measure the drop of a triple clamp you measure the distance from the bottom of the stem area to the bottom of the fork leg clamping area.so straight edge across the bottom of the clamps at the fork area and measure from the straight edge to the bottom of the clamp where the stem goes through.

Haven’t had the correct mind set to dive into numbers the last couple weeks, so still no descision on the drop numbers yet. After having a great conversation with Les at PDM Fab he’s extended a welcome hand and offering to help, and after getting some great ideas from Les I jumped on evilbay and started searching for some recommend parts, found these. Pretty happy. My hope for this future build was fat tire on spoked rims. Everything I looked at was way out of my non budget, LOL. Wasn’t really ready to get into another parts buying spree currently, but sometimes you need to crap or get off the pot.

Ducati GT1000. Front is 17 x 3.5 and rear is 17 x 5.5, pretty stoked!
